I think most people will agree that our country is at war mostly over oil - I propose that as consumers, we all can find ways to reduce our usage of petroleum and its byproducts

I want to make it clear that this song is not meant to criticize organized religion or in any way discourage church attendance (well maybe your method of getting there...)

The Devil Owns The Oil
copyright 2005 Marcia Guderian

"Well you may roll down to your church,
yes you may fall down on your knees
You may be reborn and speak in tongues and witness and receive
But when you get back in your car again you may not own your soul
Cos we're all in debt to the Devil cos The Devil Owns The Oil

Someone started drilling deep into the ground
and found that black gold bubbling and oozing all around
and turned it into riches and influence and fame
And the Devil, he was laughing as the moth flew toward the flame

And the oil oozed and spread into everybody's lives
And it seeped into the water and burned into the skies
It spread poison and destruction all around this earth
And the Devil, he was laughing cos he knew what it was worth

Burning in the East, Burning in the West
Petroleum, petroleum, Distillate of death

And "civilized society" depends upon the oil
Stockholders like vultures waiting for the spoil
And nobody is blameless but no one is to blame
And the Devil is well satisfied. To him it's all the same

Now hellfires burn brightly as the oil wells run dry
And sickness takes the living and the heavens start to cry
The planet is defaced and life is compromised
And the interests of the wealthy triumph over the wise

Now there's so many things to buy for it
So many ways to die for it
And the Devil laughs at all we do
As we fight for the last of the poisoned brew

Burning in the East, Burning in the West
Petroleum, petroleum, Distillate of death

Well you may roll down to your church,
yes you may fall down on your knees
You may be reborn and speak in tongues and witness and receive
But when you get back in your car again you may not own your soul
Cos we're all in debt to the Devil cos The Devil Owns The Oil"

..........

I realize, not everyone believes in a Devil, (and I'm not sure if I do...), but in this western world of opposites, such belief goes hand in hand with religion for many; and the people involved in those powers that are perpetrating the current war and destruction on this planet profess to believe in this religion.
I am hoping, in a way, with this song to call attention to the hypocrisy practiced by those who wage war over oil.

I hope soon, to have a recording of the song available to post.....
