Current mood:  inspired

Every month I will be featuring a track from the Sugar tribute album 'LAS:T' on the Sugar fans page.

The first track to be featured is the wonderful 'G.A.S. Drummers' version of 'The Act we Act' which is my personal favorite on the album.

If you head over to:

http://www.myspace.com/sugartribute

....you can download the whole album for free and while you are there add them as your friend and say thanks.

Enjoy.

SUGAR Tribute

Mel X, thanks for promoting our collective effort. Posting cover songs on this page was my initial intention when I decided to put together a tribute to SUGAR, but then some guy advised me to create a separate page for this, and that was a good idea.
Yes, "G.A.S. Drummers" cover version of 'The Act We Act' is a great choice to start up the new feature here. As all the songs on the 'LAS:T' CD, this one has it's own story, too. The song was the most long awaited of all songs. I contacted the band by the end of summer 2006 for the first time and they said they were in with 'The Act We Act', but it's only by the end of april 2007 that they finally came up with this gem. I had doubts all along they way while awaiting for their cover to come in, I was afraid they would cancel their participation in the project, cause the guys appeared to be very busy with their own stuff. But so badly I wanted them to cover the song, that I was on the seven heaven the day I recieved it.
They done it beautifully, with a totally different approach, though. Their version just flows free and naturally led by Dani's well-tuned voice thru the landscapes of their rich musical imagination. I like the way he sings 'the dark it turns to light' in the song ...kind of reduces some vowel in there.... :)
I can go on and on telling about this guys and the cover they made, but I'll better leave it to the SUGAR Tribute story, which I intend to write over the next couple of months with, hopefully, some help from the project participants and friends.
Thanks again, Mel!
See ya'll on SUGAR Tribute page.

D.

Good idea, Mel X.!

My favorites from the tribute are John Davis doing "What you want it to be" and JOA's "In the eyes of my friends". Well i like KORK's "A good idea" too but thats a different story here, LOL!

Yeah, that KORK dude jumped in with his mind-blowing-german-lyrics "A Good Idea" when the project was about to be closed for submissions, ha ha! How long did it take for him to do the cover?... like one week or so? lol!

Forgot to ask. How about some non-LAS:T SUGAR covers? There are some good ones out there.... not too many, though. Face To Face's 'Helpless' is pretty damn good. And maybe you'll find something on the SUGARlist tribute project named 'A Good Idea' You got one? If not, some guy could provide ;)

yeah, I'll have to think about that. I guess I'm doing this really to help promote the smaller bands on myspace (and the sugar tribute page of course!!) I'm not really a fan of the face to face cover to be honest, I think it's too much like a direct cover, it doesn't add anything to the original IMHO, no I don't have the sugarlist tribute....anyone?

I actually thought you were participating in that 'A Good Idea' tribute thing. Surprised to hear you don't have one. Your name is listed on the contributers list on Hilcoff site, so I figured you might have taken part in that tribute undertaking as well.
Well, it's actually a tribute to Husker/SUGAR/Bob Mould. There are some SUGAR songs covered on that one, like 5 or something. But I don't have it at the time, it's on the other PC of mine which is quite far away from where I'm at right now. If you are interested in it, we could figure out how to get it to you.
I listened to that tribute a couple of times, and liked the 'Dreaming I Am' version made by some guy. But hey, this is not a SUGAR song, i'm just telling.... lol! They have an acoustic Come Around version and a pretty Husker Du-ish version of Gee Angel, as far as I remember. Can't really memorize what other SUGAR songs they did. Paul's site has more. Just go to the 'covers' section.

My name is probably on his site because I've helped with info for the discography here and there. (I emailed him a couple of days ago about the 'the silence between us' UK promo cd funnily enough) I don't think I was even online back in the 'sugarlist' days, it's something I hear mentioned but I never knew about it at the time.
