I don't like going to the laundromat.  Actually, I hate it.  Once in awhile it can be a decent experience, but for the most part it sucks and takes a huge chunk of my day.

I went this morning and it was out of control.  I got there and it was mostly empty so I got started.  From the time I got there to the time I had all my clothes in washing machines, the place was packed.  And either there was no school today, or it was the day where every homeschooler comes to the laundromat because there were kids galore.  Here is list of things I witnessed while there.

1.)  A mother ignoring her child who sat on the floor and shrieked "Lalalalala!" at the top of his lungs for at least 10 minutes straight.  She would occasionally say "Stop it" but in that voice where you can tell she doesn't mean it and is just saying it.  She then decided the best way to get him to quit was to start copying him, so now we had two people shouting "Lalalala!" at the top of their lungs.  This just made the kid angry so he shrieked louder.

2.)  Another mother yelling at her son to just "Shutup and sit on your butt so mommy can go outside and have a cigarette!"

3.)  Yet another mother with her three daughters who made me wonder why she even chose to have them.  It was obvious she didn't like children very much.  At one point she grabbed her eldest daughter by the FACE and yelled at her in front of everyone.  This girl was probably 12 or 13 and I can't imagine how embarrassing it must have been for her.  She had finger marks on her face for quite awhile after that.  If this mom has no problem acting that way in public, what does she do behind closed doors?

4.)  A fourth mother who got very fed up with her child and slammed the dryer door so hard that the glass shattered into a million pieces and fell on the floor in a pile.  She stared at it in shock and then started crying.  I went over and helped her clean it up and asked if there was anything else I could do for her.  She just wiped her tears and said no.  I told her I'd pray for her.

Now, I don't know any of these mothers personally.  Maybe all of them were having off days.  Maybe this is how they parent.  When it's my turn, I really hope I'm not any of these moms.  I can't imagine being a child growing up in such an angry environment.  I was so stressed out by the time I left.

I'd buy a washer and dryer if I were you...

I wish! I rent and we don't have anywhere to hook up a washer and dryer, let alone the room for it. :-(

wow. just.... wow. i mean, we all have those days where we just want to scream, but that's all pretty over the top awful. i can't imagine the kinds of lives those mamas must have to put them in a place to behave that way to their children. maybe we need to start a laundromat ministry. i'd be down.

Seriously, that's how I felt. I just wanted to stand up on a chair and yell "Hey! Jesus loves you! Simmer down!"
