I had to leave the sunny Hawaii weather for a couple days an head back to Quantico, VA. While I was there, I has a chance to visit the National Marine Corps Museum which is just outside the front gate of Marine Corps Base Quantico. I had heard so much about it so I had to check it out. I took my video camera along with me and filmed some interesting displays. I threw some of the clips I filmed of the displays and presentations into a video. I know there is already a slideshow video for On My Watch Tonight but it seemed the right song to use as the backdrop so please pardon the redundancy. Some of the exhibits in there were amazing. There is one clip at the end of the video that I left the sound on for. In the "Making Marines" exhibit, it takes you from the yellow footprints all the way through basic training. The last clip of the video was taken in a display that replicates getting your ass chewed out by drill instructors. You step into this thing kind of like a telephone booth. There are two speakers on the left and right at ear level. Once you step in, you see the picture in the clip then all of a sudden, the yelling starts and he drill instructors lay into you. Its trip. there is another display on Vietnam. To get to it, you go into the body of a helicopter, as you step out the back of it, the air is 20 degrees warmer than any other exhibit and humid. It is something you just have to see to get the whole feel. There's a bar/pub on the second floor called Tun Tavern. Tun Tavern is where the Marine Corps started, who'd a thunk it, Marines in a bar. Anyhow, I wanted to share some of these pictures an video clips with you. If you're ever in the area, stop by and see it. It's free too. The day was also special for me in that it was the 16th year to the date I was commissioned, something I will always remember. This is not any type of propaganda or official endorsement, I just thought it was pretty cool and thought I'd share it. I hope you all are well and have a great holiday and healthy and happy new year. Mke
