Current mood:  quixotic

"What's going on with you guys?"

Here's the scoop - by the fall of 2003, Johnny Socko had been playing continuously for thirteen years, performing over two thousand shows across every corner of the country, releasing six albums of our own plus a compilation and two records with the Aurelians.  We desperately needed a break from 220 days a year on the road, and needed some time to recharge our creative juices.

So, after a show at the (sadly now-departed) Patio in Indianapolis on New Year's Eve of 2003, we simply haven't booked any shows.  We've never broken up, and have come close to performing a show here and there, but nothing official.  We have a pile of some very interesting demos that we may get around to one of these days, and are still in close contact with one another.

What are we all doing now?  Well, the biggest news is three young additions to the Socko road crew.  In addition, all of us have been exploring (for the first time in a LOOONG time) the concept of a home life.  By January of 2004, I personally hadn't been in the same town longer than a week in over a decade.  Adjusting to life off the road was an interesting experience, to say the least!

In the past few years, we've been focussing on letting the music speak for us while we take a break from the road.  Check out one of our five studio albums, our Double Live album, the three Aurelians discs, and the latest Chris Coolidge album at www.johnnysocko.com.  The music is out there, and growing - more about that in future blogs.

While there are no shows on the books at the moment for Socko, we're involved in several really cool projects individually.  Check out the members' MySpace pages, support your local musicians, and we look forward to seeing all of you out there again someday soon!

Right on man.  It makes me very happy to know that you guys just need to simply chill out for a bit and not some huge meltdown.  I'm here in St. Louis where the the last gig of yours I saw was I think 4 or 5 years ago at a club called the Creepy Crawl.   I was just grooving on the 3rd disc of the live album today, reminiscing about when we were almost guaranteed a Socko gig every 6-8 weeks, and that it would always rock.

Yeah, I remember the Creepy Crawl!  That place was fun, and even better was the weird bar next door that appeared to be completely unchanged since 1954 (including the waitress).  Thanks for the shout out.

I'm so glad to see you guys haven't fallen off the face of the earth...and I'm totally excited to hear there's still more Socko music to come!

One of the last times I rocked out to you guys was back in 2002 (I think)...the last time you played in Peoria, IL.  You guys all came and stayed with me and my roommate that night...I think we watched "Zoolander" before you guys went out to the parking lot to sleep in your van so you wouldn't impose...but I distinctly remember five rock stars chowing down on our french toast the next morning!!

I miss you guys soooo much!! You're definitely the most entertaining band I have ever seen :)  You guys would frequently visit UpFront and Co. in Marquette, MI. (yea, way the hell up in the U.P. lol - middle of no where) All I know is that you guys were the only ones to pack that place. My girls and I always looked forward to you guys coming up, please tell me you'll be playin' again soon!!!

It is really awesome to know you guys are still around.  I remember seeing you as a wee lad when you would play shows in Evansville.  I recently downloaded Bovaquarium from eMusic and it brought back a ton of memories.  Best of luck guys!

I long for another night of Fenster and Johnny Socko sharing the stage at Little Brother's...

alas, it's not to be, and that's just sad...
