Yup - first blog!

Don't worry I haven't been accumulating existential thoughts over the last year, ready to gush out some tome. I thought it was time to do some music.

I have been a bit sad about the effect the interweb has had on the great art of the mixtape. Since people pretty much stopped bothering with CDs the blog mix has become something which is ephemeral, disposable, and most importantly - incredibly quickly superseded. You decide to do a mixtape of all your hot new shit, and by the time you've spent a week putting it together in a clever way, it ain't no hot new shit no more. The next time I do a studio mix it will be one of those retrospective things which are a bit more immune to dating. 

But that doesn't really apply to live recordings. You're not trying to say "this is a definitive statement of my sound" it's just "this is what I sounded like on one particular night".

Fabric recorded this 18 minute mini-mix between bands at AITBF on 20th March 2008. They streamed it on their member's site and it proved popular - so I thought I'd put it up here for peeps to download. It is the perfect length for my bike ride to work - and maybe it will be for yours too.
