Who Gives Kudos:

Thursday, June 11, 2009
A few things on our radar, love and thanks to everyone who came to one of our shows recently, of course, I hope it was as good for you as it was for me. That's all the Matmos shows for a while...however to keep you from crying all summer there are Drew things and M.C. things to do.

Drew activities:

They named a book after an essay Drew wrote about a paper bag! It's called Requiem for a Paper Bag and it was made by the extremely fine folks at FOUND Magazine. There are many celebrities writing about things they found. Drew's eponymous essay is also in it...it's a pretty great read! Do buy it, and support elegant dying medias. Learn more here:

Martin activities:

Instant Coffee! (with or without the exclamation point as you see fit) is the name of a project I was forced to start because playing with these fellows was so good I thought other people should probably see it, too.  We are going on a little tour, some cities in the east,  "midwest" and Toronto and Montreal. Please come see us, or if you know anyone who lives in any of these places who might be interested, I encourage you to let them know about this. As we are a new group, there will be, um, NO press to speak of, so how would anyone know unless you or I tell them?

Who is in the band and what do we sound like?

The group is Lisle Ellis, a bass player and digital muscian from New York city who has several decades under his belt with some of the most amazing people in jazz and experimental music including Cecil Taylor, George Lewis, Trevor Dunn, Marilyn Crispell, Fred Frith and literally scores more...

Jason Willett, a multi instrumentalist (playing insane electronics from Ciat-Lonbarde   http://www.ciat-lonbarde.net/sidrassi/index.html  ) from Baltimore, who has made records and played live with Jac Berrocal, Yamatsuka Eye / The Boredoms, Jad Fair and Half Japanese, James Chance and many many more.

and myself, I've played and made records with Bjork, Terry Riley, the London Contemporary Orchestra, the Kronos Quartet, Leprechaun Catering, Kid 606, John Wiese, Rachel's, and a lot of other fine people.

Where possible (most places, I hope!) we play in Quadrophonic sound, and accompanied by video that I have made especially for this opus. Drew says that we play "high metabolism electronic improvised music that drones, jazzes, noises, falls together and falls apart."

Here are the places we will play, and when:

2640 St Paul
Baltimore, MD
--Tuesday, June 16, 8pm
