watching the hostel late last night, got 'lives of others' on movie channel, the good one, with no commercials. amazing movie, one i'd heard about but likely would not have chased down. subtle and nuanced story about eighty's east germany, about a playwrite and his actress girlfriend and the secret policemen who surveil and harass them. highest recommend, it really touched me, a superlative work of art which speaks to the artist's perspective at many levels.
i love being broken through to by great art, it doesn't happen often to me, and when it does it's usually music. love how it inspires me to work, and reminds me of the holiness of what we do.
having said that, nothing kills a movie for me like hype from people i know. but i think this one will be worthwhile for you.
i am going to toronto at the end of this month, to be best man at a wedding and to see my toronto cadre. won't be working, but i will be poling at the scene, and with my camera and blog energies, perhaps there's some writing to come of it. right now i'm trapped by my concerns and undone paperwork here, not really doing what i want with art or with commerce. trying to make that up in enjoying the gorgeous summer weather.
i wish you the best ! i am making some headway on a printing of highlights of this blog, likely in a 25 book run later this year. it'll be 20 bucks, i think. let me know if you want a copy - that'd make my day.
love;
