The other day, my friend calls me up and tells me about a charity poker event benefiting the young Asian American community. He was invited as a guest host and player because of the success of our movie. Then he said that they wanted to take care of my travel and accommodations if I wanted to come play in the tournament.

Who am I to turn down a free trip to go and play poker?!? Of course I replied 'yes' and didn't think much about it until tonight.

Earlier tonight, I received an email from my friend with an attached letter from the charity. Here are the contents of the letter:


Dear Scotty,

I am writing to you because of your incredible success as a professional poker player, especially because you are a trailblazer who inspired countless young Asian players to do the same.  Your contributions to the community make you a truly inspirational role model for the next generation of leaders.

We would like to invite you to join us as a Host of our Charity Poker Tournament on Sunday, September 2nd, 2007.  If you could join us as a Player and Host, we would be extremely grateful for your help and would be happy to pay for your travel and accommodations.

You are also invited to speak that same evening and share some of your thoughts and experiences with the audience.  Inspire '07 is a three-day conference that brings together over 500 young Asian American professionals of all generations and our Charity Poker Tournament is expected to draw over 1,000 to 1,500 attendees.

I hope you take advantage of the opportunity this Labor Day Weekend to inspire the next generation of young Asian Pacific American leaders!  Please contact me if you have any questions.


Apparently during conversations with the charity organizers, my friend was referring to me as his poker playing producer 'Scotty', not knowing that Scotty Nguyen was a very famous professional poker player. I immediately wrote back to my friend to make sure that he clears up this mistaken identity snafu before they spend any money promoting Scotty Nguyen as a celebrity host and player. I'm curious to see what happens next and what they'll say once everything is explained. More than likely, my invitation will probably be rescinded. LOL
