Remember the old days when vinyl and cassettes were the only way you could listen to music? One of the things I miss about those days is the concerts. We had Middlesbrough Town Hall Crypt, The Empire, Newcastles Riverside club. Tickets started at £3! You could go and see all kinds of bands, I am talking from Sheep on Drugs, Hyperhead, Pulp, Beastie Boys, Rollins Band, Shane MacGowan, Pop Will Eat Itself, Jesus Jones, The Verve, The Specials, all sorts. We used to go during the week after work if we saw a name we liked the sound of. If you didn't like it, well at least it was a night out and it cost less than a fiver!
I have been to some concerts where there were more members of the band than audience and they have been some of the best nights of my life.
I can't help thinking that there is a whole bunch of bands not coming to our attention and a lot of people missing out because this kind of gig is not around anymore. Bring em back I say, end Carling Academies tyranny!!!!!
