"Who knew that embarking on a two week mini tour of the east coast would be such an adventure? ::One Hand Loves the Other:: certainly hoped for good fun, as well as enough money to pay for gas to return home. What they got was something not even they could have dreamed up.
First stop, Joli Rogue, Asheville, NC. They started playing to an empty room on a weeknight, and ended up drawing so many people in off the street that they were cheered on to play the set twice to appease the bodies on the dance floor. This drew the attention of representatives from the WE Music Festival in Wilmington, NC. The next night they were showcasing for the opening night of the music festival to what seemed like a repeat of the night before. Starting to an empty room, and ending to a huge crowd.
Such fanfare was a surprise to ::One Hand Loves the Other:: who weren't expecting such a warm reception on their first tour, but the best was yet to come. After sleeping on couches and car seats on their way to Manhattan, the band played their first New York show. Derek Spisak, the marketing manager for Expedia.com, came to watch the show and was impressed enough by the performance that immediately following gave the band a key to a hotel suite across from Central Park where they could rest more comfortably.
Jason Drew, radio Dj for WPLJ 95.5 in NYC, was also in attendance and following the performance, befriended the band. Jason then passed on a CD to the legendary songstress, Liza Minelli. Liza was then drawn to One Hand's next performance at NYC's, The Annex. She cheered them on from her VIP table in the front row and discussed the song meanings in between sets. Jason Glastetter mirrored the band's surprise when he mused on CMJ.com, "I'm not shitting you, Liza Minnelli was there, complimenting and kissing the lead singer of the band after the show outside of the club." www.cmj.com/relay/?p=2206 and www.murphguide.com/andthenwhathappened/jun2007/4.htm
Back in Atlanta, they are now planning their fall tour. In addition to meeting friends and fans from the east coast tour, they will be playing shows throughout the United States and Canada, from Mendocino to Ontario, and promoting their debut CD which will be available on iTunes as well as through Stickfigure Records, followed by an EP of dance remixes.
Be prepared to see a lot more of this band, with their classically infused electro-pop, pushed by Gavin Frederick of Stickfigure Records. It seems the world is ready for another profoundly catchy, genre bending band from Atlanta, and ::One Hand Loves the Other:: is happy to oblige."
