It's best explained in Chapter 10 of The Emerald Tablet, by Dennis William Hauck, entitled Seven Steps to Transformation. The seven steps are 1. Calcination 2. Dissolution 3. Separation 4. Conjunction 5. Fermentation 6. Distillation and 7. Coagulation.
