Dear beautiful people that have been following this band for the last several years and all the new ones that just found us today......
Dee and I have been holed up in the studio finishing mixing three of our latest songs. We have had the extreme pleasure of mixing with a world famous kook named,
Mark Plati. He works with Prince, David Bowie, The Cure and I think I saw a gold record in his bathroom for the Fat Boys which of course made me very happy. So anyhooshal, we knew we had to have him mix our song NUMBER ONE cuz its def got some influence of all the aforementioned (minus the Fat Boys) and of course a lot of new new new influence too. We wrote this red hottie with
Super Buddha (talk about kooks and I cannot get enuff of them!) who have always rocked us to the core and made us laugh until our abs hurt. When we do the all niter writing sessions with Super Buddha aka Barb and Charlie, aka beebs and chibs we always do a quote board. I dunno man, something happens after 2am when you've had enuff redbull or coffee and you just gotta write that stuff down! Those quote boards will one day be in our behind the music, tell all book. My fave is 'your relationship makes me sick.' Maybe not funny outta context you will just have to wait for the book to come out! hahahah! You can check both these powerhouse production teams out in our top.
It's funny cuz Doug brought this song into the studio and it sounded like something totally different so we started fuckin around...well what if I sang this and what if you played that and oh shit what if we added this. That's how Pretty Boys songs always happen they start as one thing and turn out utterly and completely diff...kinda like life huh.
This song is about not being afraid but to be the best you can be. Pretty Boys have been to the bottom and the top, both as individuals and a band so we know what the eff we are talkin bout! And ya know how I write lyrics...part new age affirmations, part street, part bitch. So! So?
We recorded all our instruments at a
lil studio in god knows where Brooklyn, then we went to
Dee's wwwaaayy the eff uptown and tracked all the vocals. Dee ended up adding some sick keyboards up there and then he got the horn section who plays with Arcade Fire and The Pierces to lay down some tracks. Big ups to Jon Natchez and
Kelly Pratt on horns!
So here ya have it ladies and gentlemen and bois and unicorns.....this is our holiday gift to you!
Love,
Galadriel
