Loudly into the night Howlin’ at the Moon concerts, Ventura It’s Labor Day weekend, which means another heaping helping of raucous rock at Ventura’s Red Cove, a bar that’s been running louder, longer and deeper than most any other in the area. The two-day bash in question is called Howlin’ at the Moon. More than a dozen bands — many of the rockabilly and/or punk persuasion — will play loud and fast. Cover is $5 each night. Tonight at 8, the Deadbeat Sinners, Disfunction, Rocken Dead, D.on Darox, Whiskey Glass Eye and Dead of Night will perform. On Saturday at 7:30 p.m., Radio Threat, Give ’em Hell, Trailer Queen, Iron Outlaws, Luck of the Draw, the Formaldebrides and the Resistors will perform. The best band name award goes to the Formaldebrides, an all-girl punk group from Santa Cruz. Loud and fast enough to pump up the mosh pit and scare off any potential groupies, the Formaldebrides are sort of like the Donnas on steroids. They’ll pound out tunes like “Fresh Blood” and “Curse of the Wolfman’s Woman,” plus some Misfits covers. The Red Cove is at 1809 E. Main St., Ventura. "As the name implies, The Formaldebrides are an all-female band hailing from San Jose, California. They play punk-injected psychobilly, inspired by the same macabre B-movie, sci-fi and horror flicks that appealed to The Misfits, The Cramps and The Nekromantix. Whether it be zombies, nocturnal beasts, cemeteries, autopsies, coffins, cadavers, demons or the occult, it’s difficult not to have an appreciation for malevolent supernatural iconography. The Formaldebrides are well aware of this and have structured their latest self-titled EP accordingly. I certainly hope a full-length album is in the works and will emerge from the shadows soon"

Throw a dose of monster movies into a blender with The Cramps, The Misfits, and L7. Add a shot of jack, your favorite serial killer, and four wonder bras. What do you get? The Formaldebrides.
Since they emerged from their graves in March 2004, The Formaldebrides have creeped into the spotlight. Bringing a sense of humor to their love of all things macabre, songs like "Curse of the Wolfman's Woman" and "Beast Infection" have given the band a steadily growing cult of fans who have helped them pack clubs and kept their demo cd on the Steetlight Records best seller's list from it's release in 2004 to it's sellout in July, 2005.
The crunchy punk guitar of Miss Mercy, the dark steady pulse of Saint Celia's bass, Lexi Leigh's voodoo drums, and Lady Dai's sultry growling give the Formaldebrides a sound all of their own.
Initially labeled as a psychobilly band, the brides have not shyed from challenging the genre's stereotypes replacing their upright bass for an electric. The end result is a dark, punk, voodoo style horror show you'll die to see.

A big, open-it-anywhere book created for music fans and pop-culture followers of all ages, The Band Name Book explains how (or where) the best-named bands in history got their names. Those names are profound, clever, silly, provocative or downright obscure. This entertaining book is full of information and trivia about bands from the dawn of rock 'n' roll right up to today's Internet-based independents.
The Beatles are here, as well as Led Zeppelin, Pearl Jam, Nine Inch Nails and the Goo Goo Dolls. But the best fun is found with rock history's lesser-known groups, in Web-savvy contemporary bands, and with true originals. Among their names: Atomic Rooster Arctic Monkeys The Lemonheads The Formaldebrides The Soup Dragons Pavlov's Woody Arcade Fire Big Al and the Kaholics Hectic Watermelon Smorgasborgnine.
The Band Name Book includes entries on thousands of bands from more than 30 countries, divided into dozens of entertaining and irreverent categories with special notes on name origins, genres and best album titles. There are profiles of notable bands. And there's even a list of "Names Still Available" for each category. Savannah Schroll Guz - Library JournalHudson (Unforgettable Canada) has amassed an entertaining jumble of facts behind several thousand band names from 30 countries. The names are organized into 28 idiosyncratic themes, like "Shock Your Mama" and "Rock & Role-Playing." However, for easier alphabetical location, they are also fully indexed. While consistently noting each band's hometown, bite-sized entries, sadly, follow no set format and only sporadically include critics' statements and band interview quotes. Often-but not always-do readers find band member names and name explanations. However, the book is richly illustrated with full-color vintage concert posters and album cover art. For pop culture-focused collections only.
The band was formed in March 2004 with original members Doris Karlof, Lana Chaney, and Petrina Lorre (upright bass) & Isabella Lugosi (drums) . Lana Chaney A.K.A. Miss Mercy was originally the only member of the band living in Santa Cruz. The other three members were from San Jose. In March 2005, the Formaldebrides replaced their upright bass player, Petrina Lorre, for an electric bass player, Claudia Rains A.K.A Saint Celia (who also played bass for The Gales). Doris Karloff eventually moved to Venture, CA. This is when they found their new (singer) Lady Dai who resides in San Jose. Shortly thereafter Isabella Lugosi dropped out and was replaced by Lexi Leigh on drums (who also played drums for Die Darlings). Miss Mercy is the last remaining Original member. Their demo CD The Formaldebrides remained on the top ten best sellers list for Streetlight every month since its 2004 release. It was meant to be a promotional demo for show bookings. The Formaldebrides then decided to sell the demo at Streetlight Records in San Jose and Santa Cruz in 2004 as their music was in demand and continued until it's sell out in 2005.
