The past few threads have been about dark issues such as racism, child abuse, politics etc. For this thread, I wanted to focus on the creative forces that make you, your community, your country, or the world better. Affirmation is key here.

This is your opportunity to talk about what makes you happy. It can be watching the New England Patriots destroy their competitors (no offense to Titan fans). It could your reading a book from your favorite author. Perhaps, landscaping or home decorating in your thing. What about spending time with your family or best friends during the weekend. Personally, I love getting on a plane and flying to Jamaica…I love the spirit of my friends and family there. I always feel renewed after a trip to my home country. So, I have only one question for you what (activity, thing, event, situation etc) brings out the best in you?

Everyone is welcome to share her or his shiny happy thoughts. I look forward to reading your comments. Oh yeah, feel free to leave kudos…they make me happy.

This thread is dedicated to all of the Shiny Happy People. You make me smile.  One love.

reading is a favorite, but if i had to pick one thing that makes me happy it is just laughing with people i care about. i know that's lame, who doesn't love to laugh? duh lol but i don't really have any one situation that brings that about, it can happen anywhere and anytime. i break out in hysterical laughter at least once an hour even if i'm alone. insane? maybe. i wouldn't change it though:-)

1. I get happy when I am first in the blogs!
2. When I flirt with beautiful girls on facebook and myspace. This makes me 'momentarily' happy.

But what keeps me going is my family, when I talk to them over the phone, hearing their voices, laughter, jokes and the challenges they are going through, their hopes, fears, expectations, disappointments and achievements. That touches my heart, it makes feel alive as ever.

When I talk to my 86 year old maternal grandma, gogo MaTshuma, the custodian of our lives, our anxieties, the person who has seen it all, when our mothers were still kids, how they made her angry when they got pregnant 'outside' marriage, how she didn't want my parents to marry because my dad was an unknown stranger and refugee, how she saw those 2 teenagers rise to the occassion, surpassing her expectations, when we were born, raised up, and became people ourselves. That makes me happy, treasuring those words, sharing them with my younger sibblings and my nephew and niece.

And lastly, when I listen to R.Kelly's 'Happy People' song and I start to dance. That song captures my very spirit as a person, I'm rarely angry, I am a happy person, stepping to the left and the right!

Good night.

Lately, I have been hearing from friends how beautiful Jamaica is...I'm starting to get more than curious now...like, how am I going to get there?
Anyway, I have to go and meet my brother for his birthday, but I'll be back with a few of my favorite things later on.
one love

I can be a bit mushy about these things…I listened to this on my walkman when I was on the train going to meet my brother, sister and Mum.

1.I love it when Geoff gets on YouTube, and plays me all his favorite songs from “back in the day”, and I                 get a recount of what was happening at the time…(no details spared),
2. When my kids ask me a question, and I know that they are thinking critically for themselves, and questioning the bigger picture, and their place in it.
3. My music…makes me very happy.
4. The friends I have been meeting, and getting to know.
5. Daydreaming
6. Going to “that place” where no problems exist, and you forget about your worries for a while.
7. A great documentary…could be about animals/people who are doing things against the odds/positive messages.
8. Dancing and singing.
9. Learning new perspectives from different people, and elevating conversations.
10. Sometimes I can look at a person even if I don’t know them, and I can just see their inner beauty, and that makes me happy.
11. Chocolate and ice cream and krispy crème donuts (although, not as much lately).

“Life in General.” family, friends, work, reading, writing, shopping, cooking, going for long walks, especially in the rain or snow, “cuddling” I think it would be easier for me to say what makes me unhappy.
What do think?

Catherine, what makes happy is more important than what makes me angry or sad.  I think if we celebrated more we would be more fulfilled.  I like your list...but shopping only makes me broke for I avoid it. lol

Meagan Fox, I want to hit that more than I want to hit the Lotto! It would be my pleasure! There are four things every human being wants and the first is pleasure. We are born with built in pleasure and pain reactors, pleasure is the first want of everyone. Pleasure is too private and limiting though, when people mature they want success; money, fame, power. When people realize what they have got has nothing to do with what they are worth they turn to the third want is community; to love and be loved by those around you. Pleasure, success and community all have thier limits in the finite world. The last want for people who have made it to this level of maturity is for liberation. Liberation from everything that distances us from infinite being, infinite awareness, infinite happiness.

Real talk there Pharoah!  My happiness comes from breathing.  As long as I can breathe, happiness has infinite possibility.  It's all in how one defines it.

Donovan, please excuse Michael.  While he may have graduated high school, I am positive he hasn't graduated college on the topic of love and relationships.  He's 40 going on somewhere in his mid to late teens...  and he's way out of his league on that one.

Thanks Wesley for adding some flavor to this thread. Everyone is welcome to share her or his points of view. Your coming was unexpected. I do invite you back...however, I politely request that you avoid using offensive language only because young people also read my blog...It is my belief that one can express himself or herself without the use of language that discourages meaningful dialogue. Again thanks for taking time and making time to share your colorful thoughts. Cheers.
