"The Booking Manifesto"
I hear a lot of complaints from sound men and club owners about how "band's do this stupid thing, or band's do that stupid thing" I have no doubt that they are true war story accounts.
Unfortunately, bands and musicians more specifically are lumped into some pretty horrible stereotypes. As in most stereotypes there are grains of truth. The problem is when an artist makes arrangements to play for a live music establishments those stereotypes are pre-conceived by most cynical(rightfully so) bookers, club owners & sound persons. Thus the band's in question are treated as some sort subhuman class.
We in mumble think that's too bad. Especially for us. If you are a club owner, booker, sound person and even another band who wants us to play a show at your venue or with you at a venue, please read what you get from a mumble appearance.
1. A band who calls or e-mails for details on load in time, set time, other performing artists, expected draw, negotiated compensation and directions greatly in advance
2. A band that promotes their shows through mailing list, myspace, flyering, attempts at local publication, word of mouth and radio when the opportunity arises
3. A band that shows up on time and takes the stage promptly
4. A band that does quick setup and even quicker tear down
5. A band that works patiently and friendly with all staff including sound persons, waitstaff, doormen, bartenders and other bands
6. A band that is flexible and goes with the flow about start time, length of set, band order and technical difficulties
7. A band that does not get hammered or show up stoned before their set and only very rarely enjoys too many brews after their set
8. A band that is grateful for drink tickets but also buys drinks from the establishment and tips the waitstaff regardless if the drinks are complimentary or paid for
9. A band that thanks the band before them and asks the patrons to stick around for the bands following them
10. A band that never complains about compensation or bad mouths the venue
Having been that accommodating you would assume "mumble sucks"
On the contrary! We perform a tight, musically adept, entertaining & professional set. Let us play your venue and we'll prove all of the above to you.
