ONE MONTH TO GO...

...and all in all it was a quiet week. The July Fourth holiday, falling on a Friday, emptied the city out pretty early in the week. So we played to smaller, but no less enthusiastic audiences, and enjoyed our time together.

POKER....

...was the main event. We played between shows on Thursday and again on Saturday. Squeezed into my dressing room, we giggled and snacked our way through the breaks. As you can see from the photos, my MICKEY MOUSE HATS were very popular good-luck charms among the players. The one that says WINSTON (the name of my character) was a gift from producers Jordan and Richie. The one that says GBM was a gift from our press agent, RICK MIRAMONTEZ. Just what the GBM stands for I cannot divulge. But I'm sure your own imaginations can provide fun guesses.

and Danny just tosses money at the rest of us!

JUST BEFORE SHOWTIME...

...is always interesting in my room. Folks drop by on their way down to the stage or just hang out waiting for the show to start.

Here are Adam and Penny waiting for The Go.

And either Leslie was being shy or she was trying to tell me something with this pose. Can you guess what that message may have been?

THE VISITOR

Lest you think the week was without incident of note, here is a photo of legendary actress ELAINE STRITCH who popped backstage after seeing the show. And I'll risk tooting our collective show horn by telling you that she went APE for the show. She called it "New - EXCITING - REAL - BRILLIANT - SHOCKING - and - B-LL-S-IT FREE!" It was really lovely hearing her go on and on that way.

THREE WEEKS TO GO

And so we have only 3 weeks, or 24 performances, to go before we slip away from The Walter Kerr Theater. I expect that our audiences will continue to discover the unique experience we offer even while we begin to pull up our tent-pegs.

Meanwhile, I will keep you up to date on all that happens with us.

So, from me and all the gang at A CATERED AFFAIR I say...

...STAY TUNED!!!!
Caleb

Ha Ha! It looks like you have more characters in your dressing room than on the stage. I'll bet you guys do have a blast hanging out toghether. WoW! Elaine Stritch. How groovy is that? I'm clueless about the Lays Cracker Crisp. Hey, I'd take whatever Danny tossed my way...he's a cutie. Thanks for the fun photos, Harvey!

Be well and take care.

Hello Dahling!

We have a party of 3 for the last show. I'll have my tissues out before the curtain even goes up. I'm having a hard time grasping our NY audience didn't pick up this show on their shoulders and launch it into a glorious long run. I just don't get it.

Besides Lori, who are the soprano voices that soar in the the last song?

I read on here where Matt Scott got to do one show for Matt Cavanaugh and Mr. Zimmerman got a chance to do Tom Wopat's part last week. Did anyone else get a moment in the sun?

Hugs to you!

PS: Oops! Forgot to tell ya I saw Broadway.com's 6/3 photo op with Dana Delany backstage and a comment that they didn't know Dana and Tom Wopat did summerstock way back when. I have a pic from then and it's a scream. Tom looks like polyester Frank Butler in "Annie Get Your Gun" with Dana swooning on his arm. It's so 70's! If there is some way to get it to you, let me know.

Thanks for the nice pictures and update. I'm glad so many people are going "Ape" for the show. I'm sure my friends and I would adore it too - but I'm careful these days - last time I went ape, a gorilla tried to rape me and oy did he have a banana !

Two Kudos as always.

Luv and peace,
Chris Aable

Your dressing room is reminiscent of a Benny Hill sketch between shows. I still don't understand why "A Catered Affair" and "A Chorus Line" are closing. I guess that's show biz. Thanks again for these wonderful updates!

I know this is childish and immature of me, but I am beyond happy that i got to see ACA when I did last month. I feel bad for everyone else that won't get to see it!!! It REALLY is a wonderful play and show... .

I'm actually a little bit jealous...you hung out with Elaine Stritch!!! She's fabulous...such a wonderful way about her, never mind the fact she 's one of the women that put the "Broad" in Broadway!!!(Meant PURELY complimentary). The woman is a living legend....

Please, continue to keep us in the loop.....

I can't believe it's closing and I won't get to see it. How about a reprise here in CA?

Hi Harvey:

I've been reading your blog since the inception of "A Catered Affair" and finally got to go see it this past Saturday. I've got to tell you, my partner Archie and I just loved it! We laughed and cried right on cue and, to say the least, we were very impressed. I have one question though. While waiting on line in front of the theatre, I was surprised to see who I'm virtually certain was Tom Wopat ride up on a bicycle and chain it to a road sign. Was that really him? If so, that's pretty priceless!

Thanks so much for the wonderful production Harvey. I'm sad that the show is closing and I will look forward to your next venture.
