"government should stay completely removed from monetary policy"

Actually, the Constitution specifies that "The Congress shall have Power... To coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures." In addition, "No State shall... make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts." No power is given to Congress to create a central bank. And no State is afforded the right to demand fiat money issued by such a bank as legal tender for payments. Unless amended, the Constitution therefore declares that only gold and silver Coin is legal tender and only Congress has the power to decide how much of each is in a Coin and to actually mint it. There is zero room for a national monetary policy as decided by a private bank.
