Well, Lionel, you well-photographed ant you, I appreciate that much needed kick in the seat o' my pants. In response, I thought your suggestions were right on the money. I love Korine, and though I've not yet seen Julien Donkey Boy, Gummo has long been a favorite film of both Chase and myself. So good show, old man. And as for Jodorowsky - well, I guess that brings me around to my first recommendation. "Santa Sangre" is the 1989 feature from Chilean director, comic book author, and Jesus-complex sufferer Alejandro Jodorowsky. You may or may not know him by his cult feature "El Topo," the messianic western which played to acid-casualty midnight crowds in 1970. He later obliterated some minds (and a few dozen live toads) with the almost comically psychedelic "Holy Mountain." After a pretty lenghty hiatus and one disowned film ("Tusk"), he made Santa Sangre in 1989. It's the story of a family of circus performers torn apart by betrayal, murder, and double-amputation. Our protagonist faces a dilemma when, acting as the arms for his armless and devoutly religious mother, he must kill off any and all young women who make advances towards him (he is, after all, a strapping lad, not to mention Jodorowsky's son). A great premise for a film, to be sure, but Santa Sangre's real strength is in truly memorable sequences and stunning visual artistry, and boy, it's got it in spades. Check out the elephant funeral procession scene as evidence. Or the graveyard scene with the zombie brides. Or the scene with the Downs patients and the prostitute. Or any one of the scenes in which the ghostly mime Alma is present. It's all complete and utter visual potery, the likes of which can't really be accurately compared to a lot of other films. While El Topo and Holy Mountain are also completely amazing films that pretty much ought to be seen by everyone, Santa Sangre is maybe a better place to begin diggin' into Jodorowsky's work. It isn't as dependent on absurdly lofty religious allegory and obtuse symbols as the others. It also has the most straightforward plot and rounded-out characters. And visually, no movie (with the possible exception of Holy Mountain) even comes close. Hope this was informative. It was a little longer than I wanted it to be, but oh well. Hopefully, as I keep doing them, they'll get better. And just to restate the intention, these are movies that I like that I sincerely hope you'll look into and subsequently like. So, yep. Thanks again, Lionel.

MY recommendation is XXX - State of the Union starring ice Cube as XXX It is a good movie because 1)there's lots of action....... it's not BORING like santa WHATEVER..... 2) there is this one scene when XXX is getting chased by this thing and you just have to see it because it's just too cool!!! and that is why that movie you like is boring!!!!
