[Singapore, Singapore] It was a night of transporting oneself into different worlds limited only by the individual’s imagination. Hailing from Indonesia, Everybody Loves Irene’s music wafted in the air hypnotizing passersby to be seated into the mass transport which is the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre and be captivated by their tunes that seem all too familiar. Airy vocals? Check. Melancholic, gloomy trademark sounds? Check. Remember Portishead? Tracks performed includes ‘Misfit’, a punk band Misfit cover of ‘Hybrid Moments’ and the one that got the crowd humming and chanting was the haunting last song, ‘Memento Mori’ even after they left the stage.

As the sun sets, turning the milky grey skies a few tones darker, Amateur Takes Control (ATC), an aptly named band who took serious control to continue the glorious legacy. The place was filled to brim by now. Heads bobbing in symphony. For some, eyes were even closed. As the energy built up as every song went by, the motion grew intense and then fades away and so the cycle continues. One look at these Singaporean lads and it makes you wonder how they are able to pack such hell of a punch! Among the songs performed were ‘Ghost Promise’, ‘4207′, and judging by the crowd’s soaring applause that shook the outskirts of Esplanade, ‘Communication Downbreak’ were the most favourited. Hands down!

Last act of the night, Deepset took charge afterwards, leaving every single soul enthralled and deeply awed. Amazingly, not even a single chatter amongst the crowd and all eyes were transfixed on them. It just goes to show how our Malaysian brethen work their charm. Deepset’s works melt one another like butter on toast. Enchantingly seamless that nobody noticed that they actually had come to their last song, ‘Put Your Dream To Sleep’ which ended the mind-blowing epic saga.

As one by one lands back to the disturbing reality. They bit their final adieu and say their thanks to the charmed crowd. New fans came approaching waving their CDs in their faces excitedly, some shook hands and gave pats on the backs thanking them instead for putting up a marvelous show. Indie Indeed was a truly magical affair that was savoured to the very last drop. Indeed.
