Category: Music

Oh yes, it’s that time of year again... another huge and healthy list of artists you may or may not know, across loads of genres. I tried to keep it smaller than 35 bands but just couldn’t! Things are so vibrant just now; it would be rude not to mention them all. Investigate them and your ears will be duly rewarded.

Please though, before crying about your favourites not being on the list - take a look at the ‘Scottish Artists to Watch 2007 & 2008’ blogs. They might well be there...

Twin Atlantic

Pictish Trail

Young Fathers

Sparrow & the Workshop

Y’all is Fantasy Island

Sucioperro

Rustie

Unicorn Kid

Punch & the Apostles

Come On Gang

Healthy Minds Collapse

We See Lights

Be a Familiar

The Velcro Quartet

Hostage

The Ray Summers

Black Channels

Triple School

The Xcerts

Meursault

Mesa Verde

Eagleowl

Hey Enemy

Fox Gut Daata

Over The Wall

Dance Lazarus Dance

My Cousin I Bid You Farewell

State of Affairs

Woodenbox & A Fistful of Fivers

Mitchell Museum

Super Adventure Club

Zoey Van Goey

St. Deluxe

Ross Clark & the Scarfs Go Missing

Call to Mind

Word up to… The Phantom Band, Isosceles, Findo Gask, Dananananaykroyd, 1990’s, My Latest Novel, We Were Promised Jetpacks, Broken Records, Malcolm Middleton & Franz Ferdinand… all of whom should have shiny new albums out in 2009. Go and buy them all!

Feel free to add to the list – it’s always good to know who you rate at the moment, and who I should be checking out.

I hope you find something you like – Happy New Year Y’all!

Cheers,

Vic xxx

the wonderful thing about these lists are to remind you of albums you forgot because life was frantic when they were released or to get you to search for new bands. these lists are doing both for me.

now to look forward to SXSW when I get a chance to see the smaller Scottish bands who dont otherwise get to come over - yeah to The Scottish Arts.

we see lights? are you joking? they are without a doubt one of the most tedious bands i saw live this year.

this list is missing: cuddly shark, the ballad of mable wong, john b mckenna, big river, and lyons- to name a very talented few.

I think that San Sebastian are definately one to look out for, they've been on a hiatus for the last couple of months, but are playing some gigs over the next few months, including the Homecoming festival in May.

Hey Vic been far too long Mrs G

Sat listening to the Rockness show on play again and totally loving it, Yahweh & French Wives were top and it was nice to hear Biffy, with Simon sounding cheerful, makes me feel like heading home for T but far too skint, though very happy.

Love to all
