I am totally amped right now...  Andrew and I just spent the last five hours at the console and PC mixing tracks from our summer / fall recording sessions.  These tracks have been a long time in the works, and it's good to see some fruits of our labor ripening.

Earlier this week our new bass player Joe met up with Andrew at Sparhawk Studio to drop in the bass tracks for some of the songs Ben, Andrew and I had recorded over the past couple of months.  They worked on 'Still Around', 'Back of the Line', and 'Up to You'.  We'd already had Rich Storch add a bass track to 'Steady with You' for the compilation CD we recently appeared on, so now we have four tracks completed with bass lines, vox, guitars, and percussion.  Things are starting to come together...

Tonight Andrew and I met up at my place, Studio 154 to do some mixdowns.  I hadn't heard the tracks yet, so I was already psyched to simply hear what Joe and Andrew had recorded.  Andrew connected his laptop to the console here, and loaded up the tracks into CuBase
.

This was the first time Andrew and I had collaborated in this capacity, and very quickly we found our groove and we're boucing thoughts and ideas for mix off of eachother, and applying the changes to hear the result.  I am still getting over a cold, and so a lot was sounding kinda dull to me since my ears are still feeling the pressure of the sinuses.  I sat back while Andrew helmed the mix as we worked through the tracks.

Each one came together beautifully, and I am proud of the work we did tonight.  We even discovered that the small room we were mixing in had it's own dynamics...  From one corner, where there is a chair that he or I would sit in while the other controlled the console, the low-end bass is magnified and seems to overwhelm the mix!  Until we realized this, Andrew and I had debated the levels because from the other parts of the room the mix is well balanced.

Our goal now is to get these tracks off to a friend, who has offered to master them for publication.  We can then take the tracks and get some CD's made, which we hope to have into the hands of friends and fans ASAP.  We'll keep you all up to speed with the goings on, so be sure to check back here, and on our facebook and website (www.buildingjames.com) for news and updates.

Cheers,
Daniel
