After the comment on the last Salvation photo blog I'm in a bit of a mess.

I'm not sure whether I should take a stand on the "pants" issue or not.

Far too many people have been saying Salvation is not what it used to be. The "dress code" was re-implemented (it was there when I started at NV years ago) to bring up the standards. Now I'm hearing it's what is making it "no fun"? Some people think it still is, otherwise I wouldn't get any pictures.

I'm just fucking torn up.

Salvation is still fun for Wen and I. So much so that we are fighting to get her Sunday night off.

I love you all, but I'm tired of hearing the complaints. I either want to cry or start screaming every time someone says something.

I just don't know what else to say.

Complaints should come to me. I'll deal with them fairly.

There is only one rule, and it has to do with oversized very baggy pants. Like these. It is predominantly a security issue. We are certainly not the only club in Nashville to have this rule.

These are the issue. It is a very distinct item of clothing that cannot be mistaken for anything else. These are not bondage pants, or jeans or anything else. These are very very baggy pants with lots of pockets.

Everything else is a suggestion, no one has been turned away for anything else. Ever. I should know, I'm the one working the door. If you have questions or concerns, ask me. Complaining to everyone else, sending bulletins and whatnot will not do much of anything other than make people feel they have to take sides, and there are no sides to take here. It's not about telling people what to wear or how to be. I would hate for someone to tell me how to dress. I find it exceedingly hard to believe with the creativity inherent in this scene that a person cannot come up with an outfit that does not revolve around one particular item of clothing. There are a lot of pants that are just fine. In fact... all pants but one style! One rule, several suggestions. Far, far nicer than many other clubs I've been associated with in the past, I might add.

It's really that simple.

I think there's a bit of the old Telephone Game going on with rumors about our dress code -- or, at least, a lack of understanding in the realm of fashion terminology. I actually had somebody inform me that we weren't allowing bondage pants in the club one night, while I was standing there wearing some. As Amanda said, the pants pictured above are not bondage pants. Bondage, as a rule, involves restriction, which can not be achieved when you have room to move around. Bondage = tight, just so we're all on the same page.

I say this, with some sense of humor, to illustrate how easily people can be deceived when they're not using a term correctly. If person A, (who doesn't know what bondage pants are) tells person B (who does know what they are) that we're not allowing bondage pants to be worn at the club, then person B is going to walk away with a bad misconception about our dress code. I think this may be happening too often, hence Amanda's point that people should ask us if they're concerned, rather than relying on second- (or third-, or fourth-) hand information.

Yes Ich, I think cargo pants have just entered the conversation. I think your rule of "if you can put both legs in one side" is pretty accurate. That's kinda big. I posted Mai's dress code from their website on Ray's follow up to this. And again, I would very much like to be asked about any issues that may come up instead of it being assumed we have some sort of master plan to reshape the future of fashion in the goth industrial scene.

Cue BSG Cylon scary music.

I have tried to just let the dust settle, but it appears that not saying anything make things worse. So I am open to any feedback from anyone on this subject.

All I can say from the "no fun" statement, it wasn't directed at the dress code, though going home to change didn't help. The bulletin she referenced was more of warning others to go to the +Salvation+ site to check the code, not to spread a flame ware.
And really, this isn't something worth taking a stand or getting angry or upset over....I mean, who would care if my hermit ass didn't come out as often cause I didn't feel like being around a crowd of people? Some things that keep people away are purely personal tastes.

Um... I care. I like seeing you. And believe it or not, we do actually care if people are having a good time. That's kind of the point, isn't it? The problem here is people not understanding things completely or why things are the way they are, and it seems that people always assume the worst intentions from everyone. I personally hate that.

I was more trying to make this suddenly serious tone into a more lighthearted one :) I wasn't implying that noone cared who was/wasn't having fun...but maybe I should pick words a bit more seriously even when I'm not being so :)

Oh, I know you didn't mean anything terribly negative. :P I'm just frustrated by this as well.
