There are indications that my kid may end up an artsy nerd. He draws a lot. That's cool. Every parent is proud of their child's talents. The fact that the back of school worksheets are covered with intricate drawings of robot/alien/zombie battles is not a problem. The fact the the front of the worksheet is BLANK, that's a problem.
He spends most of his waking hours (when he's not in school) building things out of Legos. His "waking hours" are often a lot longer than most people's. He sometimes draws and builds when everyone else is asleep. Again, it's cool. Maybe he'll be a sculptor. I'm flattered by the idea of my son wanting to be an artist like I am. Wifey hopes he'll be an architect, because it pays better. Either way...
The other day, son's class put on a little musical showcase for the parents. Afterwards, the kids had the option of returning to class for the last hour, or going home early. He wanted to go home early. We had this conversation:
Me: Don't you want to do fun stuff with your class? Son: No, I've had a hard day! Me: Really? What happened? Son: I have a headache because I got hit in the eye with a ball. My legs hurt because I had to stand a long time for the concert, and a mean girl punched me in the stomach!
