What happened to the days in hip-hop where an artist would get credit for his ability to be versatile? It seems that so many fans nowadays no longer appreciate diversity. Is there anyone out there that remembers when Biggie did that song with Bones Thugs and he straight killed it with their style? Nobody said he was biting or swagger jacking. They loved the fact that a New York artist was able to change it up and still be deadly. Same case scenario with Nas when he came with "Big Thangs" off the I am album...crazy.
As of late in hip-hop, I don't see many artist taking chances anymore - excluding the likes of Kanye, Lupe, Snoop, and course not to be bias myself (there are a few more but sheesh this is a blog, you get the point. It seems that artists takes criticism if he or she goes outside of the box and tries something different.
For an example my latest single "2 MPH" has made many people make what to me is senseless comments. What you have to realize is a Bay area artist has connected with 3 Houston rappers to make a Houston based song. And on a first time listening basis you don't recognize the demographical difference. But yet and still in this day and age of hip-hop the fans don't realize how much of a big difference in slang, culture, preference these two areas have. A Big example I love to use n this case is Lupe's "Hip-Hop Saved My Life," where he projects himself as a Houston based artist explaining how hip hop saved his life. The hardships of blowin up in Houston and reminding ourselves that this guy is from CHICAGO.
That was fuckin incredible...
What sucks is there are no longer real true fans of music anymore. The kids these days just love songs, not the artist. If you haven't bought a album, sat there, opened it, read the pamphlet, checked out the credits, who did what and where it was recorded @, listened to it 5xs in a row, picked your favorite songs, memorized them and the album fillers. Then please don't place forth your opinion on serious issues.
The depth of artist cannot be determined by one song or two. It comes from albums and lifestyles. What we have to remember: this is business. And more then that - its show Business. It's just entertainment people. Open up your minds and ears. If an artist is handling his business, no need to hate. And don't allow your personal conviction or disdain for an artist allow you to hate when they doin they thing.
Some people hate Wayne, just cause they hate him. So no matter what he drops, they will say it's garbage. Keep it real! He's getting it in right now. Same as how people love Jay and he can have an off bar here and there (which he rarely does) and people will act as if he said the greatest shit ever spoken by a human before.
HIP HOP is all about DICK RIDIN and WHO'S HOT in the public eye. No more about who's really spittin and tryin new shit expanding an working outside of the box…
