I'm thinking about adding the following in the credits of "New Jersey: The Musical"

My film partner thinks we should leave it out.

I'm considering all opinions.  What do you think?

A parody exists when one imitates a serious piece of work, such as literature, music or artwork, for a humorous or satirical effect.

"…the use of some elements of a prior author's composition to create a new one that, at least in part, comments on that author's works."
- "Parody" as defined by the U.S. Supreme Court
"…the fair use of a copyrighted work, including such use by reproduction in copies or phonorecords or by any other means specified by that section, for purposes such as criticism, comment… is not an infringement of copyright."                     -Section 107, U.S. Copyright Revision Act

I suppose it would depend on your intent for including it. What's the purpose?

You also have to consider the amount of material you use in a parody. If it's above a certain percentage threshhold, you could get into infringement issues. Without knowing the specific circumstances, it's hard to render a constructive opinion, but that's my two cents.

I suppose the intent is to show that we did indeed consider the legal ramifications... and that we consider this piece a parody of the style, and ridiculousness of the cheesy music.
