Sandwiched in by mountains, getting up close and personal with Denali. Seated at Mountain High Pizza, digesting some Zah and Caesar salad. Mighty good pizza it be., We are sitting here in the beer garden surrounded by "Foghorn Stringband" stickers, so we knowz the locals are friendly! Soaking up the first real rays we've had since we landed here in AK. Last night we played a quiet little cafe in Palmer (The Vagabond Blues Cafe) - great acoustics, kids djembes and old folks, awesome bread. Rachel ate several loaves by herself. Spent this morning cleaning smoky clothes, then hit the road north to Talkeetna, passing mountains that make Hood look, well, puny. Rachel and Justin saw a moose on the Anchorage trails. It looked right at us. It seemed surly. Of course it was surley, Rachel talks mostly about whales...the moose knew. The van is full of snax and beer and 7 people. The sky is so big here, the mountains are so many and the landscape goes from sticks to velvet grass, to scrub pines, to snowy peaks that disappear into clouds. A big FMG smooch to Todd who helped us out so much with the tour!!
