Dawson draws pic
Dimension dabbles in 'Occult'

By MICHAEL FLEMING
Dimension Films will adapt a comicbook co-penned by Rosario Dawson for the bigscreen.

Dimension Films has acquired movie rights to "O.C.T.: Occult Crimes Taskforce," an Image Comics series that launched in July.

Dimension is crafting the project as a star vehicle for Rosario Dawson. Thesp has headlined five recent films for the genre division, and she co-created and co-writes " O.C.T.," whose protag is an animated version of her. Dawson will produce as well.

She'll play a Gotham police detective who, after stumbling upon a gruesome and bizarre crime scene, is enlisted for a covert squad that uses black arts and mystical weaponry to hunt down and kill soul-sucking ghouls.

Dawson created the comic with David Atchison and Tony Shasteen, writing episodes with Atchison while Shasteen illustrates them. Atchison and Shasteen will be co-producers on the pic.

Thesp grew up in New York a comicbook geek, watching her uncle Gus Vasquez draw them for a living. Influenced by her experience making "Sin City" with co-director and famed graphic artist Frank Miller, Dawson got the idea of launching her own.

Vasquez will be associate producer and Ford Lytle Gilmore is exec producer on "O.C.T."

Dawson recently completed "Killshot" for Dimension. She is currently starring in the Quentin Tarantino/Robert Rodriguez pic "Grindhouse" and will reprise her role in the "Sin City" sequel.

Dawson made her debut as a producer on "Descent," an indie drama in which she starred for director Talia Lugacy; it's being shopped for distribution.

Dawson's repped by ICM, Untitled and lawyer Carlos Goodman, while Harris Miller made the deal for Atchison and Shasteen.

This seemed inevitable. I assume we won't see this for a while due to pre production and all that good stuff?

Congrats!!!! Can't wait until Killshot, Sin City 2, Grindhouse, and Descent-it'll be so great to see Ro, Trac, and Willy working together again. Now all we have to do is get Jesse back into the picture again. The chemistry is SWANKIN'!

I am very happy about this project making waves so quickly. The buzz at Heroes Con about this title was much talked about. I loved the originality of the books, I just hope other people dont try to do it and make OCT less special. Great premise+ great story+ great actress= great movie!
