Scholarship Recipients Announced
The 2009 BWRC Scholarship Recipients have been selected. They are Sharla Atkins-Beal of San Diego, California; Tyrona Hill of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Joyce Smith of Houston, Texas; and Kelly Baptist of Pensacola, Florida. We are also pleased to announce we'll have two young writers joining us this year, Oni Blanton, 14, of Portsmouth, Virginia; and Lacara Rogers, 12, of Fort Worth, Texas.

BWRC Vegas '09 T-Shirts Now Available for Preorder
BWRC Vegas '09 conference t-shirts are now available for preorder. Shirts will be delivered at the conference to attendees. Orders to be shipped will be sent after the conference. We will have a limited supply of t-shirts for sale at the conference, but availability cannot be guaranteed.

Advertising & Exhibitor Opportunities Available
Advertise in the 2009 BWRC program for as little as $25. This year we're also offering classified ad space for those who don't have a graphic ad available but would still like to promote their products and services via our program.

We also have a few more exhibitor spots available. Exhibitors may sell books and products at the conference on Friday, June 19.

Workshop Preregistration Now Open
Workshop preregistration has begun for this year's conference. All registered participants should have received instructions and a link to complete preregistration. If you have received confirmation of your registration and have not received preregistration details, contact us.

The Next BWRC: 2011
We have received countless emails inquiring about the location and dates of the next Black Writers Reunion & Conference from individuals planning to attend in 2010. Please be advised that there will not be a BWRC in 2010. Our staff has voted unanimously in favor of holding the conference every other year until further notice, so the next BWRC will be in 2011. We are still contemplating whether to host a retreat next year in lieu of the conference, but we will not make the announcement until after BWRC 2009. In either case, you do not want to miss BWRC 2009!

Leslie Youngblood Wins the Orlando Prize for Short Fiction
BWRC Vegas '09 participant Leslie C. Youngblood is the recipient of this year's A Room of Her Own Foundation's Orlando Prize for Short Fiction, which comes with a $1,000 award. Her short story, "Smoking Demon," is hailed as "magnificent writing." AROHO has published her fiction piece in its entirety on their website. See the newsletter for a link to Leslie's story. Congratulations, Leslie! Awesome work.

Mincy Guides Writers to Great Results
N. Kali Mincy will be presenting a two-part intensive fiction writing workshop at this year's conference. The former Senior Editor and Public Relations Manager for Long & Silverman Publishing is now a coach with a client list that includes authors who are national bestsellers, translated around the world, featured in Forbes, and broadcast on XM Satellite Radio.
