Am I a lucky girl or what? Can you imagine being invited by the Orchestra of St Luke’s for a concert of the Fauré Requiem, at Carnegie Hall, with Bobby McFerrin as a conductor? My whole neighborhood is envious! I just can’t wait to get to New York and start rehearsing. I know many of the musicians by their first names and feel so honored to have been invited once again to make music with this very special orchestra.
I have worked with Bobby McFerrin once before at the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. We did a rocking Messiah. "Rejoice Greatly" ended up being done in the 12/8 version with a very jazzy pizzicato bass. The mezzo was Lorraine Hunt-Lieberson. I can still see her and hear her sublime singing. We were all so amazed when we found out that Bobby could sing all four parts: baritone, tenor, alto and soprano. He is a creative genius. I can’t wait to meet with him again and find out what he will be bringing to this piece. Yet another gift from life that I cannot wait to experience and share.
