Etown Taping in Colorado Springs! Wed. Dec. 10th, 7pm, Armstrong Hall with Flobots and Matthew Caws
|
Etown along with hosts Nick & Helen Forster head south to Colorado Springs for a taping at Armstrong Hall on the Colorado College campus. Flobots pay their first visit to Etown. This progressive hip hop collective is Denver's biggest musical success story of 2008. "The band is rap music's most singular breakthrough act in years." ( Boston Herald). Etown has showcased so many young, emerging artists over the years, delivering their music worldwide. Catch the Flobots now, and say you first saw 'em in Etown! Also on the bill is Nada Surf's front man Matthew Caws, "the decade's foremost purveyor of power pop." ( Los Angeles Times). Matthew shares his Nada Surf's poppy, thinking man's indie-rock songs in a rare stripped down setting. Please join us in Colorado Springs for some great music, engaging conversation, and an inspiring E-Chievement Award presentation to a local hero. Click here for information and ticketing.

Etown Taping in Boulder Thur. Dec. 18th, 7pm, Boulder Theater Tim O'Brien & Shemekia Copeland, plus Congressman-elect Jared Polis
|
Come to Etown to celebrate the close of another spectacular year of tapings. Tickets on sale December 6th! Grammy winning singer, songwriter, and multi instrumentalist Tim O'Brien is coming back to Etown! It's been over 30 years since Tim moved to Colorado where he would form his landmark band Hot Rize with Etown's Nick Forster. Now firmly rooted in the music community of Nashville, this child of West Virginia has continued to blaze his own unique and very prolific musical trail engaging fans with his deft musicianship, gorgeous singing, and artful songwriting. Shemekia Copeland returns to Etown after almost 10 years. While still in her 20s, she's opened for the Rolling Stones, headlined at the Chicago Blues Festival, scored 'critics choice' awards from The New York Times and The Times of London, and shared the stage with luminaries such as Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Taj Mahal and John Mayer. She's heir to the rich tradition of soul-drenched divas like Ruth Brown, Etta James and Koko Taylor. This young talent's shot at the eventual title of 'Queen of the Blues' is pretty clear. By some standards, she may already be there. Plus, Congressman-elect Jared Polis stops by for a chat with Nick Forster, and we'll have the story of another inspiring E-Chievement Award winner to share, too! Greetings!
| ..TABLE>
..TR>
We are coming to the end of an outstanding year for Etown. Many of you let us know that our star-studded program in Denver during the DNC was one of your favorites of all time. We continue to add stations and listeners and are about to launch a new website that is more interactive so all of you "citizens" can connect with us - and our E-chievement Award winners -- more directly. Our Podcasts are popular worldwide, and our award winners and musicians tell us how much being on Etown helps them. Those of you in Colorado know that we worked hard to make one of our long-held dreams become a reality: we were finally able to purchase "Etown Hall" in July, and will begin renovations next year on this old church in downtown Boulder. We couldn't be more excited about what that facility will mean in terms of future programs and live events. After nearly 18 years, our mission still feels right: to educate, entertain and inspire a diverse audience, through music and conversation, to create a socially responsible and environmentally sustainable world. We have our work cut out for us, and we're doing a lot, especially considering the size of our staff - ten people, only six of whom are full-time. We have so many opportunities in the coming years, and we are committed to ensuring Etown's long-term stability and health. And, as a non-profit organization, we do rely on the financial support of people like you in order to keep Etown going. That's why we're asking for your donation during this special campaign. A generous Etown listener from the Pacific Northwest has offered us a challenge grant of $100,000 for our ongoing operation. This grant will match every dollar we raise up to that amount by the end of this year. So please, support our challenge grant. We work hard and we provide a unique service to the greater community. We rely on this one campaign every year to keep Etown healthy. I know that this is a challenging time for donors and non-profits alike, but we don't ask for much support and we don't ask often. We must meet this challenge grant by the end of this year, and, with your help, I know we can do it. Thank you for being a Citizen of Etown.
Sincerely,
.. Nick Forster Founder/Host/Executive Director

Please enjoy these comments from our family of listeners from around the world!
We have always enjoyed every aspect of Etown: Not only its excellent performers, but also its special tributes to ordinary citizens who make thoughtful contributions to human rights and our environment. The show inspires us to really look at ways to improve "our own backyard. -- Rod and Nita Fullerton, Westminster, CO Love the show! Every Saturday my father and I would tune in. I was raised listening to Etown. Keeping my heritage alive, I listen every Saturday on my way to work. The E-Chievement Award is now my favorite; it gives me hope for a better tomorrow and gives evidence that there are people out there who still care about the little folks. Keep up the awesome work. --Sarah Counce, Knoxville, TN I hope you continue for a long time. I love to share the program with my two sons. It brings up great discussions about what people can and are doing to make our world better. --Bonnie Westwater-Edlund, Waitsfield, VT In places where it is often difficult to find like-minded connections for social stimulation and growth, Etown has become like an old friend passing through sharing news, a new story, and song. Thanks for being a window into a much bigger world illuminating a community I may have never seen otherwise. --Tim Robertson, Hannibal, MO Great combination of music and stories about people who are CREATIVELY helping other people solve their problems. People are more powerful than we give ourselves credit for. Thanks for doing the show! --Herb Huebner, Edgewood, KY I am a retired Australian (12 years in the Navy and 30 years in the Australian Bureau of Meteorology). I admire your philosophies on life and the way you live it -- quite opposite the way most people see Americans in the media and in public life generally. Congratulations on your show and keep up the good work. --John Burdett, Australia You make me proud to live in an area that produces such an exceptional program. --Beth Christensen, Denver, CO I "stumbled" across Etown while traveling on the highway. You know how it feels when you find something valuable or find something that you lost? That's how it feels. Popular music has become a vast wasteland and it is fantastic to find an oasis in the desolate landscape that has become most radio programs. You've done a great public service with this site/program. --Matthew York, Dayton, OH Great music and interviews with an inspiring social message. What could be better? If only our elected leaders could think in these terms! Thanks for bringing us something we can really use in our lives. --Berry Sherrod, Rhinebeck, NY Etown is the embodiment of activism and fine music... When creativity and purpose align the sky is the limit. Thanks for all you do. Etown helps me feel connected. --Michelle Mosser, Santa Fe, NM I love your show! The music is awesome, the stories are inspiring, and it's one of the happiest hours I spend each week. I've discovered some of my new favorite artists through the show. Keep up the great work! --Lynn Aguado, Columbia, MO
