Current mood: contemplative
So the rumor mill came back to me last eve that some audience member had thought I had said something offensive towards Texans on my blog. First off, I have nothing against this place. Both sides of my family are from here. Second, I had a hard time finding anything that could be taken that way, then I looked under something I had written last year describing someone that had helped me on the way. I had said briefly that on the way out here "I was aggressively helped by hillbillies." Just to be clear, they were self described and proud hillbillies from CA. I had described the guy as "Boomhower on a lot of meth." That really was kind of what the guy was like. You could hardly understand a word the guy had said. He also talked a million miles an hour and was more aggressive about helping than anyone I had seen. Perhaps he was working off some karma. I know the guy had said he had just gotten out of jail for murder. I found this out as he was driving me around town, and telling me how crazy most of the people in that town thought he was. He flipped off a sheriff's wife as he drove past while telling me that they would never arest him in that town because he had something on the town judge. We ran into the town judge and the guy knew him by name and shook his hand. Bald and covered with tattoos, the guy was amazingly helpful, but somehow scary at the same time. In his rantings while driving me around looking for a used tire he had said he was a reformed carreer criminal. In this very small town he had been stabbed by 4 different people, and shot by 2 others. Just as he told me this he waved at a guy that waved back. "That's one of the guys that shot me. We get along better now though." he said. He got me a tire, jacked up the trailer, and put the thing on for me. Sure my danger sense tingled the entire time, but he really did help me. I was already locked in the car when he pulled out the huge beer that he drank while he swerved down the road ranting the entire time. Oddly the guy was really nice, but dangerous and scary. An interesting combination. Thanks man where ever you are! If I offended anyone by his description, keep in mind his own description of himself would probably be crazier. He was a good guy. He seemed like he felt he needed to do some good deeds to make up for the past. In the end he made me promise to help someone else. I did indeed do so.
