This means that the Cocaine has a long overdue upgrade coming. And by upgrade, we mean the following:
******
--->As we are currently staffed with 4 people in house now (Crystal, Nico, Jon, Adrian), we now have more hands on deck to help solve problems and pitch in to the actual operation of our little community, both in keeping it smooth and helping to improve it.
--->Okay, that first point is vague, we know.
--->Crystal is making sure that we are booking 1.5 to 2 months in advance, so that everyone has lots of time to promote, rehearse, plan special craziness with us like activities (drinking games, maybe?).
--->We still have not changed our Saturdays only policy for booking, so that's why it feels like it takes forever for us to get back to you - the tubes are just clogged. However, we're going to start putting a cap on how many times a band can recur per season so that we can start getting our Alumni and Apprentices to play (see below). This means, unfortunately, that we have to space shows out about a month and a half apart.
--->We are going to introduce a hierarchy to the Cocaine. No, not a pyramid scheme; we are actually going to put up another community site that will make a way for us to keep working with bands we love, assist in getting our old favorites BACK into the bar, but also to connect with bands we'd love to welcome for the first time. More on this to come--but for now, our categories are these, and trust us, you'll know which group you fit into:
-Cocaine Aces- These are bands that go out of their way to keep up with us and make sure we are mindful of them by dropping into the bar and even just hanging out with us during a show; these bands are allowed to have entire nights where they bring in THEIR favorites, and induct newbies into the venue as well. We will have a public listing of The Cocaine Aces so that new bands can resort to them for help.
-Cocaine Army- You've played with us before, either we have your or you have our contact info, you're just kinda waiting for a free date. As we are constantly bombarded with requests, it's probably a good idea for you to keep up with us too and become an Ace band - however, before you become an Ace, we would still like you to jump on existing bills and help induct newbies. Keep in touch with our Aces, as they seem to be leading the way. Please don't forget about us, too; it's nothing personal, we just can't keep up with everyone, so we need you to remind us you're still ready to gig.
-Cocaine Alumni- You've already been initiated, you know the drill, you've rocked, and it's been a while, and you should come back. But how to do this? We are hard to get a hold of and you don't know very many of the Aces... well, these are the bands we'd like to start working with again, so pretty soon we're going to open up a line of communication for you. More on this to come...
-Cocaine Apprentices- "How do I book? Where is the venue? Can't I just send a message over MySpace? Is there a phone number?" If this sounds like you, you're a newbie. That, or you've been to the bar and you thought it was cool and you'd like to get involved somehow. You will be following in the Army and the Aces and jumping on their bills to get yourself inducted. Be sure to drop in and introduce yourself as we can better help you out that way.
******
So, this is essentially a list of New Year's Resolutions. It's a start, and it's working towards something better.
So let's do it to it.
