Category: Life

I knew Jeff to be a man who lived with pain all his life.

He bore it with great dignity and no little humour, whilst giving us an insight to his generous soul through his unique music.

I clearly remember the enthusiastic the way he responded to my request to record a version of 'When a Blind Man Cries' for the 'Gillan's Inn' album.

He understood what it was all about - he really got it.

His performance, alongside Jon Lord's, on that song remains one of the most poignant interpretations I have ever heard.

It was an honour to know him; what he gave of himself will continue to travel with me.

Rest in peace dear friend, my god you deserve it.

With great respect, Ian Gillan

For me the version of When a Blindman Cries on Gillan's Inn will always remain the definitive version of a beautiful song.
God bless and sleep well Jeff

I share your grief .... I was told about Jeff passing away a few hours after it happened , two feelings hit me at the same time , first the shock and dismay at losing a wonderful heart warming person and amazingly talented musician... then secondly , maybe now the pain is over dear friend...

Both his version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps and his collaberation with you on When A Blind Man Cries show an inner true feeling he had for the music , the blues ....

May he rest in peace

Andrew

This is very sad indeed. What a brilliantly unique guitarist and musician Jeff was. He will be very sadly missed. RIP.
