So two weeks have past in the L (endearing term for league, in this case referencing the NBA). What has unfolded to this point?

My Favorites:
HAWKS are 2-4 with both wins at the expense of Western Conference powerhouses Dallas and Phoenix respectively. They got put in their places by the Bad Boys (Detroit), the PGA tour (Boston) and Wizards (no cool nickname). Josh Smith is whining and Mike Woodson needs firing while Al Horford is flying (sorry 'bout that).

GRIZZLIES (1-4) I sent my boys out west for a week and they found a win! They also found two more L's. Rudy Gay is logging great all-around digits when he's not in foul trouble but Mike Miller and Pau are having a rough time. They will turn it around soon but they have to find ways to defend the post better and score down the stretch.

What's New?

Kobe is still a Laker and to this day it looks as though he'll remain that for the 2007-08 season (Kupchak retire now!). Miami, Washington, Memphis and Chicago did manage to experience there first any only win of the season. Golden State, Minnesota and Seattle still have 0's in the W column. Seattle and Minnesota are chock-full-o-kids so losing is understandable. Seattle will see better play now that Kurt "Escape From New York" Thomas is healthy. Golden State has no excuses but we'll get to them a little later in the column.

The aforementioned Kurt Thomas played his first game with the baby Sonics. Why he signed up to be Mrs. Garrett for this crew? I may never know.

Lamar Odom returns to the Lakers' (3-2) starting line up and celebrates with a victory!

Still Rollin'!

Them Celtics (5-0) are whippin' teams like they stole something. I thought it would take a while to get into a rhythm for three guys who are accustom to being THE guy on the team. They win with no regard to my personal theories and that bothers me. But it is fun to watch!

Houston (6-1) and Detroit (5-1) have tasted '07 defeat but are still tops in their respective divisions. I always say of the Pistons "if Rasheed shows up the Pistons win". Then they lose a game in which the 'Grumpy Old Man' drops 36 points. My theories are really being tested.

Disappointments:

The Heat (1-5) and the Wizards (1-5) are battling for Southeast Conference ineptitude. No Wade=no wins. He has yet to suit up to play and Ricky Davis is sucking up all the shot attempts hit or miss. Agent Zero is amounting to just that these days (gross exaggeration but sounded good). Gilbert's feild goal and three point percentages are as low as a rich republican's taxes and he give up the rock nearly 5 times a game.

Vince Carter is out for an indefinite period with a grade 1 ankle sprain. He was struggling to score and being upstaged by Richard Jefferson and his significantly lower salary.

Who castrated Ben Wallace? He's playing with no heart and even less jock rocks. Chicago (1-5) as a whole is suffering from a motivational deficiency. Coach Skiles needs to strap up the steel-toes and get to motivatin'.

Finally but not the least of which is B-Diddy, Nellie (and his huge contract) and the 0-5 Warriors. Sure Stephen 'Captain' Jackson is out on suspension for blazin' the strip club parking lot but they have too many other good scorers to lose like this. Maybe that's the issue. Monta, Barnes, Azibuke, Al Harrington, Pietrus, Troy Hudson could all be confused on what their rolls are. Add scorers Marco Belinelli, Stephen Jackson and Brandon Wright to that mix and the Warriors are going to need three basketballs on the court to satisfy the shot-lust. Playoffs? I think not.

I said I'd get back Seattle but you stopped caring before I wrote that much so see you next week. Who ever you are. Go Grizzlies!
