Current mood:  angry
Spike Lee did an amazing job
and you must be dumb if you watched
and there wasn't a
flood inside you.
The story was told in all its parts
the pain, the triumphs and the
broken hearts
broken promises
poisonous darts

paper walls that we keep calling levees
no foundation was dug into the earth
corp army of engineers
put all the bodies in the dirt

the storm came
the waters rained
the winds blew
the people ran and they hid
and they did
pray and pray and pray.
But they were abandoned!
And the little girl's body
was washed into the neighbor's house
with here bookbag still on her back.

This is outta whack
and the people were outta time.
And no dime
from insurance or the government for rebuilding-
Removing dead bodies house by house
Repenting mouth by mouth
for ounce by ounce
of the loss.
Where were you when the walls came down?
And the waters rose up to rooftops
and drowned out millions of folks-
and turned homeowners into hollowed souls
cracked windows, broken photos
and lost heirloom bowls.

Who told those Black folk in the 9th ward
that they were Americans?
Since when did we start believing in the dream?
The scheme did pass
come clean we ask
But the repugnant stains,
even with the elbow grease,
won't heed to the pleas of the people.

This definitely is the modern day auction block
with no bids
Cause the value's been lost
over generations.
African slave port
New Orleans
post traumatic slave disorder
created pharmaceutical fiends
who can't deal with reality.
Cause who would believe that
for miles and miles
there is now nothing.
Imagine the desolation
the desamation
defacation, vomit, tears and bodies
now fill the streets
Your street
Your home
Your house is gone
and so, so, so, so long
without a response.
Days went by and the people suffered
and did I mention that they cried,
for Jesus, for God, for their mothers
for the helicoptors
that flew above and photographed
while the people held signs reading
Help Us.

Help me understand the desperation.
The politicians who argued
over whose responsibility
for the humanity
lost spirituality and the connection
over money.
More than a mishap, more than a mistake-
the bloated bodies the families came home to
Those who couldn't come home.
the water lines to prove how high the dirty liquid rose-
to the attics they climbed
and the heat rose too but there was no escape.
And this was the fate
 -the fight of the people
gurgled away under 18 plus feet
of bullshit.

America's a pit-
don't fall into the Bush
and get comfy with the plushness of our pillows
while we sleep, sleep, sleep our lives away.
But our children are not strong enough to swim
and we don't teach them to understand.
And the folks in New Orleans and their whole damn state
have no schools
and no jobs
But I guess those schools didn't teach them what they needed to know
And most were impoverished before anyway,
at least that what Barbara Bush says
when she walks through astrodomes that smell
like piss and death
with her paparazzi.
Where was she when the fake ass levees came tumbling down?

Where was her son and his flunkies?
Where was I- And why didn't I know how serious this was?
But what I do know-
and what still remains, is that hurricanes will still reign
and follow the path of
the Middle Passage
with a wrath of vengeance.
The Universe makes no mistakes
but people do.
and people lie to get by
and death consumes us.

And the images consumed me- so much that
I waited 2 days to watch Act III.
Hauntings of decomposition...
so my mission must change up.
I dream about my people
and the babies
and how we can get free.
Not necessarily from physical floods
and thick muds

But the psychological drudge.
I wanna remind them of the possibilities
and that change and healing dwells within
cause while they're waiting- they're going without.

Spike Lee- thank you
for asking questions and giving the people an ear.
The truth provides a shield and a spear.
And this all works for the Good...

You gotta believe it all works
for the Good...

I believe, I believe...
I know my people are good.
And don't deserve to die
with no gravestones and celebrations of life...
We need to celebrate life.
