TRIVIA NIGHTS: MENAGE A QUATRE!
So many winners this week! First off, I have already broken the news to Team Bob that his singular triumph of being the only solo player to win at trivia has been trumped by none other than Mikey Sha Sha! A latecomer to the Holman's pub quiz, Mikey hit the ground running, gained his lost ground, and won with flying colors!
The very next day, Team Bob recovered from the blow of having his one-man victory matched by taking the gold at The Slammer, with the help of his hetero life pal Stephen. Wednesday saw the return of the Top of the Food Chain at Peter's, which meant another victory for this team, which also meant free drinks for all players! These guys continually win with class and grace - how can you NOT love them?!?
My Thursday night premier at La Merde was great - I'm gonna love it there. We had a real good turn-out, with both old and new teams, the rowdiest being The Rose City Rippers, comprised of the La Merde managers. A very generous lot, they are - everyone who played got prizes! Seriously, Corey and Rebecca gave me a buttload of drink vouchers and food coupons . . . goodies for all. So come on down for the best chance to win stuff on my roster of pub quizzes.
Congratulations are due to a new gang of young turks known as Sprung, the team which gained the highest score. I must also make mention of Tanya, who gave a most impressive performance. This kindly couple nearly blew everyone out of the water with their small but mighty squad. You can spot them in their fresh new PBR shirts as they try again next week.
So now that I'm rockin' four fabulous nights of trivia, I've composed a handy little guide to help you ascertain which might be the best pub quiz for YOU. Unless you want to come to all four, of course (remember - I create fresh questions every single night, so you wouldn't be cheating!).
MONDAYS @ 9:00 Holman's, 15 SE 28th http://www.barflymag.com/bar/holmans.html Prize: $25 gift certificate
Make a night of it - go see a 7 o'clock film at the Laurelhurst, then cross the street to Holman's for a nightcap while you give your noggin a little workout. Why must the weekend end on Monday - it's too soon! Holman's has a full bar featuring killer bloody marys, real good pub grub, a great big patio, and a wheel that customers spin for a chance at a free meal.
TUESDAYS @ 7:30 The Slammer, 500 SE 8th http://www.barflymag.com/bar/slammer.html Prize: This is the only bar where I offer awesome Pabst Blue Ribbon gear as prizes (until further notice)!
Munch on free popcorn and quench that subsequent thirst with frosty pints of cheap Pabst. My pub quiz is over by 9:15, so there's plenty of time afterwords to persuade the lovely ladies of trivia into playing the infamous "Dare Jenga" game while rocking to the infinite tunes of the digital juke box. There's also a cozy little couch which is great for canoodling.
WEDNESDAYS @ 8:00 Peter's, 5701 NE Fremont http://www.barflymag.com/bar/peters-19th-hole.html Prize: usually a couple of free appetizers
This is where it all began. The original home of my trivia night features wonderfully friendly staff, a solid menu, and a full bar featuring great drink specials during trivia. I recommend the Washington Apple, or an Irish Car Bomb.
THURSDAYS @ 9:00 La Merde, 301 SE Morrison http://www.barflymag.com/bar/la-merde.html Prize: Best chance for prizes here, with oodles of gift certificates which I award throughout the game.
Magnificent specialty cocktails and great food (the lounge is connected to The Montage!) can be enjoyed with plenty of fresh air, as huge doors open up to make a virtual patio of the place. One of these has got to be YOUR place, don't you think?
