Current mood: excited
Wow, what a great send-off for Triumphant Quartet! There was a big crowd at the final Miracle Theater performance on Sunday night. There were several "celebrities" present - like Otis Forrest, several of the artists from the Blackwood show - including Rick Fair (and his wife and son, Rick,Jr.), Michael and Martha Davis, Bryan Walker, Barry Gibb (famous locally in Pigeon Forge not the one from the Bee Gees!!) and Sharon-Marie and Frog43 (from the Singing News forums)! All of the TQ wives and children were there including the beautiful newly-wed Mrs. Anthony Kendall (Erin Bennett).
The concert was terrific. Instead of doing their regular Christmas songs, they concentrated on so many of the songs that we've loved throughout their first 5 years. There was so much excitement in the whole show from the performers as well as the audience. Here's the list. Many of the songs got standing ovations, but I didn't make notes about them.
Don't Let the Sandals Fool Ya (with a cute little wave from Jeff Stice to my friend Vera - once he was able to locate her in a different seat than usual!) Jesus, What a Wonderful Child I'll Fly Away Walk With Me - featuring tenor David Sutton - it was just wonderful Forgave Me, Saved Me, Raised Me Hey, Jonah - written by Scott Inman Terrible Time Down There/Wonderful Time Up There Goodbye, World, Goodbye - Jeff Stice and David Sutton (harmonica) Jeff Stice did two selections - Last Date and Georgia - always popular with the crowd! The Old White Flag - the guys came out in their overalls for this one like they did on opening day at the theater this year. This was really a hoot and soooo many people were waving their hankies on the chorus!!! Jeff Stice played Chopstix ala Liberace style. One of the ushers (Judy) brought a candelabra to the stage and put it on the piano!! Jeff also revealed the vest he was wearing that his wife got for him at the Liberace museum in Las Vegas!! Jeff also played Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho - a tribute to Otis Forrest who arranged it. The Great I Am Still Is (featuring Scotty Inman) brought everyone to their feet and ended the first part of the concert.
Sunday School Medley - this is where TQ comes out into the audience to shake hands and actually get a few audience members to sing "Daddy sang bass, Momma sang tenor" with them. Denny Sutton joined TQ on stage and they sang I'll Not Turn My Back on Him Now. Then Denny and David sang I'd Do It All Over Again. For this one they came down and stood in the aisle right by where Vera and I were sitting!! Father and son are so terrific together and this was a really special song. I Wish It Would Rain - this one is also a lot of fun with the choreography they add to it! Rock Bottom Look for Me - no one can do this one better than Eric Bennett! He Is - father and son (Clayton and Scotty) are fabulous on this incredible song I Know I'm Going Home - written by Jeff Stice
There was a reception afterwards in the lobby with cake and punch. There were 5 cakes and on the top of each one were pictures from different albums they've produced. It was a great night with a great quartet and their fans!
