Current mood: blessed
I was driving in traffic and thinking about the ten commandments. Considering that there could have been so many more, I was ready to cut them down to just....6. Of course, I am no one and have no real authority at all....but just hear me out.
The first three I understand fully. The Lord is making his power and authority known to us so of course, I would never ever touch those.
The fourth is telling us to not just live your beliefs on Sunday, but the whole week through and to rest from the worries and stresses and come unto him by keeping the Sabbath Day Holy.
The fifth is a biggy too. Honoring our parents shows respect and love for the two people who brought us into this world, sacrificed and taught and raised us. Definitely that one needs to stay.
However, the next 5 confuse me. Thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not commit adultery, thou shalt not steal and thou shalt not bear false witness (lie and gossip) against thy neighbor generally occurs when we covet (number 10!) what our neighbor, family and friends have. Just say thou shalt not covet 5 times already!
It's amazing how easy it is to see what others have....bigger homes, nicer cars, fancy clothes, fame, glory, power, money. If we make time each week (it would be good to maybe do this on the Sabbath, while we are keeping it holy) to go through our week and count our blessings, we will see just how much we have. Might I make a suggestion too....start with the simple things like I am thankful for the air I breath, that my eyes can see and my ears can hear...It's a pretty humbling experience.
Wanna know what's on the top of my list today? None other than chocolate. Can you imagine life without it? God is good....so, so good.
