Nothing unites people more firmly than sharing a common enemy.  Remember during World War 2 when the USSR and the USA worked together to fight the Germans?
 
Well I think what the world needs now is a common enemy to make everyone forget about all the debts and misgivings and travesties of the past and to say, "wake up, none of that stuff matters anymore, because there's aliens trying to blow us up and we have to work together to stop them!"
 
I'm all for nationalism, I believe in the rights and powers of the individual, the state, the country, the culture, and so forth, but we have to move forward instead of trying to equalize what happened to our great grandparents.  So I say good Lord bring on the alien so we earthlings can unite to fight this foe!  And if the alien isn't coming then raise the dead and we can fight the deadites instead!
