Ello? I trust that you have all
been doing well as the world burns down. I got the chance to spend these past
few days with the family, and I feel great now, been a little home sick for a
week or so, training gets so repetitive and monotonous. Cant imagine how it
feels in theater, but I guess ill be finding out before the end of the year.
Infantry Training Battalion has been good fun, and filled with extremely good
knowledge, this week ill be doing MOUT Town, or Military Operations in Urban
Terrain, so Urban Warfare. Im jazzed like a motherfucker for it, I love kicking
in doors, I got hooked on it when I did a day of CQB training in Scottsdale, so
im going to spend my rest time in the field picking the instructors brains
constantly. Which will be quite easy as an 0311, yeah, im a rifleman now, I had
3 combat instructors wanting me to go to weapons platoon as a machine gunner or
a mortar man. Fuck that, I know how to use a machinegun, and my crew drill
kicks ass, so I dont need to be the guy sitting on top of the humvee. Granted
if an IED hits with me as a passenger, and its in the right spot, im cooked....
Regardless im having a good time.
Keeping track of all that I am doing, I will be getting deployed before the end
of the year to Afghanistan, what unit or province ill be going to is quite
unclear at this moment rumors of 2/7 have been going around and they just got
out of the Shewan Valley after doing some slaying. Either way, Afghanistan is
the way im going, but it wont be bad for a few months. If I get deployed in
October, then it will be hitting the winter months in the Afghan mountains,
which if you didnt know can hit -40 Degrees F, so things will be slowing down
quite considerably within that time. For the most part, the outlying cities
have a strong US presence, so the insurgency is a little weaker there, and the
main cities are under coalition control. Although, if you abreast to the news,
Pakistan has been bringing the heat in the Swat Valley on the boarder of
Pakistan and Afghanistan, so either the bulk of the forces will be in that
valley, or they get pushed back by the Pakistani Military into the mountains
and locked in for the winter. Either way, things will be toasty when the snow
melts off. More IEDs and more ambushes will be the Weather forecast for the
spring in my 7 month deployment.
Thought I would update you all on whats going down, im gonna watch Children Of
Men, if you havent seen it, its an awesome flick. Well, I love you all very
much, and will be online next weekend, so please send some love, it is always
appreciated.
