the johnny thunders b-day bash on the bowery was a damn good time. while i was drinking and waiting for the first band to set up, i was chatting with some folks. mentioned i had been working on a replacements doc and they were like "color me obsessed?" wow, that was COOL! felt all FAMOUS!

actually, its just nice to have SOMEONE know about your work, especially when you dont have the big pr engines working for you. all i got is my own little self..posting stickers, graffiting and talking it up at every opp ( i think i can..i think i can..) ok, there was that SPIN article and the interview online...
the guys that recognized my film were from spanking charlene, they play at the lakeside lounge regularly. their flyer has a quote about them from no other than kim fowley. wow thats a blast from the past huh? remember that solo album he did with a photo of him in a  cess pool, ah, i miss the days when rock and roll wasnt so damn pretty.

back to the thunders gig. ny junk was great and the only band that didnt do covers since they had original songs about thunders. waldos were great, clem burke sat in, bob gruen was there and that producer that worked with t-rex.

frustrated with work. the last 3 jobs i had (all in nyc) have given me a hard time over my last checks. whats with the TV biz in nyc? I get it that things are bad all over but i resent having to keep the nyc dept of labors number on my cell for regular complaints..

romance is just silly these days.  this beautiful kid was flirting with me, but unlike bukowski, i wont fuck anyone younger than my daughter. not that i wasnt tempted, it was all flattering and everything but it was wrong. i'll stick to the old broken down  40 and 50 yr old musicians....god knows they're enough trouble!

#1/ That was my old Fowley LP... still one of the greatest sicko photos of all time
#2/ How many Runaways did he screw?
#3/ I'm not a musician but I was probably more trouble than anyone
@4/ I actually cleaned up Thunders' syringes and blood after his London gig at Dingwalls... now, THAT'S rock 'n roll

The Last American Virgin

Some day I'll have to tell you about Kim Fowley calling me at 4am to talk about a music project I was doing. I actually recorded the phone call, he was rambling about wanting to produce it but make it all trashier than my vision of it. It made for a great laugh.

Love, Mattster
