A four-year exploration of Shag, the most unlikely Los Angeles icon. His artwork doesn't reflect the multicultural milieu of contemporary Los Angeles. Think post-World War II boom years, sprawling suburban tracts and the mission to the moon. Shag's world is 1960s furniture, wet bars and jet-set style. He embraces a simpler time, but his artwork is filled with subtle winks of the eye acknowledging that this period wasn't so simple. Shag has inspired obsessive fans around the globe, a Vegas musical and collaborations with Disneyland and Paul Frank. His works grace the homes of hipsters who prefer their worlds filled with clean lines, beautiful people and dry martinis.
