I got an e-mail from Danny NX today that Mike Conley, the singer for MIA, had died. That really sucks. I guess now that we're getting older this kind of news will become more frequent, but at 48 Mike was way too young. The details are a bit sketchy, but the bottom line is that he slipped on ice and hit his head. He is survived by three children, and his wife.
To my recollection, MIA only played Atlanta once. They opened up for Agent Orange on one of those rare, but great, Atlanta weekends of great shows. Personally speaking, if I had been in Agent Orange I would have been ashamed to take the stage. MIA thoroughly owned the Metroplex that night. They were a bunch of cool guys who took the stage, engaged the crowd, and blew the walls off the place; everything Agent Orange didn't do.
That night there was an epic party at some apartments off Piedmont. The next day everyone must have been too hung over to get back to the 'Plex. Tales of Terror showed up and played for, maybe, 20 people. Too bad for those of you who didn't show up. Amazing!! The show the night before should have been Tales of Terror and MIA. Agent Orange could have kept there skateboard give-away and mediocre surf-rock, and we could have been thoroughly blown away.
MIA was touring on their album, Murder in a Foreign Place, which was awesome!! If you've never heard it, you should. The passing of Mike Conley is a real tragedy. Obviously this is a very bad time for his family, and our hearts go out to them. But to those who were fans, it sucks as well. There are too many assholes walking this planet right now. Mike Conley wasn't one of them. RIP Mike.
