I figured I’d turn this into a blog because I found this very humorous. Just to clarify, this is my father talking, NOT ME. This was one of his wonderful life lessons at dinner that I had to bear and of course stifle my laughter. I’ll try and recreate it as best I can.
"Pretty much, this Obama guy wants to take all the people who make 150 thousand a year, and tax them until they only make 50 thousand, but don’t tax anyone who makes 50 thousand. It’s called socialism. He’s just looking out for the blacks and the mexicans. They don’t really want to be equal; all these minorities wants to do is take over, until white people are the minority. So don’t marry or date or have sex with any blacks or mexicans or anything like that. They might seem like your friends saying hi at school or whatever, but then they go home in their own environment. Then they’re only looking out for themselves and their own race. Yet, they call us racist. And these black guys dating the white gals, well if that’s not infringing on our property, I don’t know what is."
My mom is silent in agreement. All I keep thinking is damn, I am so blogging this. Consider it e-karma ya douche bag.
But seriously people, are we that far behind that we segregate and stick only to what we’re comfortable with. I’m not gonna lie, stereotypes can be pretty damn funny, but when it really comes down to it, people are people. It’s not a person’s race that defines them. Every single person has their own ability to break from the stereotypes and be their own person. If you choose to be the generic model of your race, so be it, but you better be proud and willing to defend it because in this world no one is going is going to let it go.
As for giving people a leg up due to their race, I find it just as demeaning as the slurs we so stealthily tiptoe around. It’s like saying because you’re black, you have an excuse for not being as smart as the next kid, so go ahead, join our college of "equality." If you want to truly be equal, give someone a leg up because of how hard they try. If they encountered hardships, then yes they deserve a helping hand, but not because of their race. They deserve it because they tried to better their education, but fell short because of things that were out of their hands.
See people for who they are, not their skin color.
Be they generous or determined or gifted or just a mean-hearted, self-centered, obnoxious asshole of a human being. =)
