One of my favorite places on the planet is Hong Kong. I was fortunate enough to visit that fine city several times earlier this decade with my partner Willy. So where is this going. Well my daughter and I went to Pacific Mall yesterday and let’s just say it reminded both of us of traveling to Asia. We remembered the distinct heaviness in the air and the smell that was almost addictive in the streets of Hong Kong something neither one of us will ever forget. ....

What brought back that memory was the waffles we munched on as we walked around this delightfully unique mall where there are no name brand stores – instead tiny boutiques like the spicy girl and cutie pie and a host of other little stores all set in glass cubicles row after row separated by aisles with street names such as Hollywood Ave. ....

So odd but colorful and inoffensive, no overtly loud thumping music just a little background sound and lots of polite sales people soft spoken and really staying out of your way unless you asked for help. It struck me as interesting how the street and store names were so North American and yet there was certainly nothing else western about this mall. ....

As we took a break to sit and devour a bowl of noodle soup (a man made the noodles right in front of us – now how fresh is that) followed by a red bean pancake that was to die for I thought to myself wow this is certainly a little taste of Asia mmm mmm good……......
