October 6, 2008 - Monday
It's time once again to thumb through the toy section of this month's Previews, and see what goodies we can uncover. Scheduled to start shipping in December.

Every month, it gets harder to care about DC Direct figures - Mattel's DC Universe Classics are just so much better. That's why it's always a tough choice when DCD offers something new, like they do on page 137: Superman/Batman Series 7 includes our heroes, obviously, but also the modern Aquaman and an action figure first, Livewire.

How do you sell more copies of a plain guidebook? If you're McFarlane Toys, you bundle it with an exclusive action figure. The numbers on the Spawn: Book of the Dead HC listed on page 146 are strange: the version with the toy is limited to 3000 pieces, and costs $33; the version without the toy is limited to 500 copies, and costs $30. Why would anyone order the toyless one?

You know those generic knock-off GI Joes that Wal*Mart sells, The Corps? Well, they're getting their own comicbook. There's a big interview about it on page 246, and the first issue is listed on 248.

The run-up to the new Transformers movie is starting, and the movie prequel comic Alliance, is solicited on page 302.

There are several new GI Joe items on page 404, including Combat Heroes (Beachhead/Serpentor, Scarlett/Destro, BBQ/Storm Shadow, and apparently Flint/Baroness) and vehicle packs (the Skyhawk and Water Moccasin).

Page 406 shows some new Battlestar Galactica offerings: Admiral Adama, President Roslin and Lee Adama, plus an exclusive Admiral Cain. Then, on page 410, we get a new BSG Minimates box set, with characters as they were seen on New Caprica.

Here's an oddity: NECA's A Christmas Story figures originally came out yeas ago, but there's a new one listed on page 411: neighborhood bully Scut Farkas.

Mattel's DCU Series 4 is shown on page 412. Strange, since they've started showing up in stores already. The Infinite Heroes continue to look terrible.

Shocker Toys' Indie Spotlight toys are listed on Page 413. Weren't these listed before? Oh well - as long as they finally come out, and don't trun into another Gwar.

Page 416 relists the Hulk Legends figures - you know, the Fin Fang Foom wave? Odd thing, though, they show a variant figure not included in the series we already have: apparently the Savage Grey Hulk is being repainted green and purple and packaged as "Classic Hulk." Unexpected!

Also on page 416, a listing for more Iron Man movie figures. Three of the figures are re-releases, but there's also a gold Mk I, a scuba suit, and some sort of heavy red and black armor. Neat! And below that we get two sets of Superhero Squad four-packs; again, more repaints, but the Mandarin and Dreadknight figures are new.

Page 417 lists the Minimate box sets from SDCC: Iron Man Through the Ages and Invaders. You can also order Skrullektra. There are new Superhero Squad pairs shown (Mystique/Weapon X, Spider-Man/Ronin, Nick Fury/Skrull and Spider-Man/Ultron) and Mighty Muggs of Iron man, a Skrull, Captain America and Vision.

The Spirit is getting Minimates, according to page 418, but there isn't any art yet. The 7" figures, however, are shown on page 422.

There's tons of Star Wars stuff to be found on page 429: new Galactic Heroes, and new comic two-packs, as well. Way too much to list them all, in fact.

Transformers Animated starts on page 430, with Deluxe Class versions of Swindle and Blurr, plus a repaint of Lockdown. Page 431 shows the "shadow Blade" Megatron - aka Galvatron - and Voyager Class Skywarp and Shockwave. If you like the Classics 2.0 toys, page 431 also debuts Deluxe Hound, Cyclonus and Chetor, plus Legends class Beachcomber and Brawn. Neat! Finally, on page 433 you'll find the Ultra-sized Predacon Bruticus, and Voyager Vector Prime and Inferno (who seems to be a new mold?).
