One thing that is important for all of us to remember is that anything we post on the internet is pretty much public knowledge. Both MySpace and Facebook are great ways to keep in touch and are excellent networking tools. However, it's probably best not to discuss how much your boss drives you nuts, have pictures of you sucking face with your b/f or g/f, or put up pictures from that wild party you went to last weekend because "streets is watching"-- excuse my incorrect grammar....I usually have to tell off some of the girls on my step team because they have done some CRAZY stuff....little did I know that adults are just as bad....

I remember seeing some pictures posted from a "toy" party (come on folks, use your imaginations and read between the lines)....women were playing with all kinds of toys and posing with them in quite provocative manners....I was actually appalled and shocked that GROWN PEOPLE would actually put themselves out there like that and think it was okay....therefore, when/if I ever get married, the bachelorette party pictures WILL NOT be posted- you'll just have to be there LOL

I recently saw an article on this guy that was the Speechwriter for Barack Obama's campaign, and at a party he'd posed with a cardboard cutout of Hilary Clinton as if he were grabbing her boob...needless to say, he's in HOT WATER right now....why? Because DOOFUS posted the pictures on FACEBOOK!!!

I think it's cool that we can keep up with our friends and share some of our accomplishments and good times in somewhat "real time" but since our behaviors even in a non-professional setting can have a major impact on our futures, when in doubt, LEAVE IT OUT!!!

With that being said, I'm going to go and review all my pictures and posts to make sure I am practicing what I preach. LOL

Here's a link to the Speechwriter guy article

Until recently I could honestly say I was okay with everything on myspace and facebook. I got a reality check when a photo taken in jest got uploaded and if you have no understanding of the circumstances surrounding the photo...let's just say someone could easily create any number of "less-than-flattering" stories about me. In any case, we live and learn (sometimes that sucks a little more than we hoped).

Yeah, you have to definitely be mindful of your surroundings and be careful of the people that have the cameras these days. It's a shame it has come to this, but it has and either we 1) delete our MySpace/Facebook accounts or we watch our behavior....either way it's a tough choice LOL

I try as best as possible NOT to take pictures with "the infamous red cup" or a wine glass, etc because although I am GROWN, everyone doesn't need to see that. I believe that the MySpace/ Facebook revolution has completely destroyed our use of discretion and we think that EVERYTHING is acceptable because we are "in the company of friends" so to speak. NOT!!! The internet is public domain and even when you THINK you have all of your privacy options set, there is still someone who can maneuver around them.

I remember when we first got to Spelman, we got a "decorum" guide....I still have mine somewhere. Perhaps we need to create one for MySpace and Facebook....because some people still don't know better...
