Music Fans,
I'm writing because many of you have written me over the past few weeks with interest in appearing on the tv show that I Co-Host. Maybe I should say the tv show that I "used" to Co-Host.
On Tuesday night, which was our most recent taping, I had a disagreement with the Exec. Producer/Host. Of course there are two sides to every story and I will not slam him out of anger. I still love the dude but felt that I could not work under the circumstances confronting me. He wanted me to present myself in a manner that I did not believe to be in the best interest of the show. I also believe that it would have made me appear in an unprofessional manner, which wasn't gonna happen if I had anything to say about it.
I also believe that I was disrespected, both as a professional, as a woman, and as a valuable part of the show. Bear in mind that I began working for the show after appearing as a guest on the very first show. I was then asked to return in the following month as a "Guest Co-Host". The rest is history. I was the Associate Producer and Co-Host for the past 4 years and booked 98% of the bands for the show. Lots of things would have been done differently during my tenure had I had full control, but nonetheless, I loved doing the show as well as working with the very talented crew over the years, but especially giving our many, many local musicians their chance to shine. The show doesn't stop with me, so don't stop watching. I've updated the website for this month's show so check it out at: http://itsabouttimetv.com There is so much talent in the Washington, DC Metro area to see!
I will never, by no means, compromise my integrity, so I can no longer work under the circumstances that I was being forced to be a part of. It's not any diva stuff involved, trust that. I'm not, and never have been, nor never will be, a diva (See my previous article on DC Diva's). I just will not allow someone to dictate "my" image or make me uncomfortable, nor will I be part of something that is not putting its best foot forward, which was, and still is, my firm belief on what took place.
I write this to inform you of my status, and that's it. I don't want anyone to think that I am still connected to the show and that I can possibly get you on there, because that's no longer the case. Now, if the circumstances that led me to take leave of the show were to change, then I'd reconsider doing it again because I loved what we were accomplishing for the bands. The show falls right along the lines of what I've done since entering the music industry, which is helping local musicians achieve their goals, whatever they are. It's just that plain and simple.
I'm not going anywhere though. I'm still running Soldierette's Entertainment, designing websites/graphics for those in the industry (or any industry for that matter), promotions, and just about anything involving the music industry, with the exception of singing or playing an instrument. lol I also still run the newsletter edging on 10,000 subscribers now, so be sure to sign up and consider advertising with one of the area's strong black businesswomen. In the very near future, I will be accepting bands in need of management as I have more time to devote to this now.
I also have a project that I've been working on for some time and could use some real help with it. This is a money-making venture that involves lots and lots of music, hard work and learning for all. I can't stress enough that this is a "money-making venture". If anyone is interested in being part of something brand new to the DC area music industry, designed and developed by Soldierette!!, please contact me at solja at soldierette dot com.
I'm sorry I couldn't help everyone, but as I said previously, I will never compromise my integrity. "If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything." Those who know me personally have respect for me, and that respect was earned through a level of integrity, honesty and straight-forwardness. I have not changed.
Be sure to watch my last appearance (with the exception of the upcoming holiday) on each Monday and Thursday, Comcast Channel 76 in PG County, MD for the entire month of September at 9pm. The band featured is the Trey Eley Band and the dancers that everyone has seen circulating on video through the internet, Markus & Deonna, were my guests. Well, they were scheduled to be "my" guests until my decision to leave the show came about. Nonetheless, these are the last acts that I booked on the show; more of DC's finest talent. Check them out on these video's:
