We will forever LOVE
Our Animals of Jollity Farm,
And Hold Dear In Our Hearts, Every Wonderful Memory

January 20th., 2010
This morning we had a meeting with land representative of Enys Estate and were presented a TWO YEAR contract for the relocation.
I can't help that think what a pity it is that the partial field ( whole field and adjoining field behind ) offered us has been unused for so many years, I think it is 8 years, other than a couple of horses grazing on it from time to time. What a waste ! And we must move from our location because that area according to laws regarding new housing developments is required for OPEN SPACE ( meaning nothing on it ) !? The new contract offered us is for two years only with no guarantee that it will even be considered for renewal. If fact from the tone we came to the understanding that it would not be !

So I guess this is how it would work !?

We fundraise to rebuild and clear out the field which we are in now which will take a good part of that first year ... then that gives us a year of security and then a strong possibility that we will have to destroy all that was done !   I can't expect nor would I ask anyone to donate funds and then expect Chris and our two volunteer helpers to work so hard ( giving up paid employment ) to rebuild only to destroy all that was done !

No - I we can't possibly do that, it not affordable to us nor is it fair for the animals to be uprooted again and again and it would emotionally drain us !

Jollity Farm has been a safe and secure home for the animals we have rescued. Since 1997 Jollity Farm has been a sanctuary, a safe home for so many animals. It has been a place that our school children ( and their parents ) have visited and enjoyed. Jollity Farm has been a place that people in the community and visitors to the area have enjoyed over the years. I suddenly feel that our dream to make it even better - has just been shattered.

There is no other location where we can rebuild with a sense of security, so where does that leave us ?

January 23rd.
Our hearts and our spirit are broken and what you read here
http://www.thisiscornwall.co.uk/westbriton/Gerrans-affordable-housing-plans-given-green-light/article-1186077-detail/article.html sadly just isn't going to happen.

From the storms, the constant wet weather we have had, the animal houses have become so unstable, and certainly not weather proof any more -  we have had to build fenced in patio areas around the large animals houses to keep the animals up and off off the wet and extremely muddy ground.  Feed bills have gone up considerably and of course the kids are eating much more during the extremely cold weather. It has cost a great deal, and we have had to use much of the funds that was meant for relocation costs - but for a job that was so necessary to keep protected from this extreme weather.

Where do we stand now. The past couple of days Chris and I have decided that the only route we can now take which will be the best and most reliable result for the animals and us is that they will now have to be placed in safe homes or sanctuaries.

We are having great success with this already, my tears and heartach have turned into the mission of making their lives safe and secure - no matter where !

I have always feel very proud each and every day to have such amazing friends and supporters..
So many people would comment when visiting Jollity Farm, just how lucky the animals are to have us - it is us who were lucky to have had them in our lives !
Thank you everyone for always being here for us and for our animal friends that we have cared for and loved over the years.

is what our animals, we, and our community have now lost, forever
.

Updates will be posted in the comments section as are animals and we move on to a new chapter in our lives.

With thanks,
Mary Alice and Chris and all the kids who were on Jollity Farm

We have just been offered a small plot of land where we can build housing and enclosures for all our older birds that we could not - would not risk moving afar. The turkeys, goose, ducks and some of the older hens will be able to now stay in our care. The land is just a two minute walk from us here - William and George, two of the goats with physical and health issues will be moving up the road, we will rebuild their home and will be able to care for them easily on site - thanks to Treloan Coastal Holidays for opening their heart and providing them a safe place ! Rosa and Sooty will go back to the Mare and Foal Sanctuary and dear little Sparky, my little man will go with them as he would not do well without their companionship. They will be forever safe in the care of all at this sanctuary.

You can not even begin to know how much this all hurts - but to know that placement is being found means more to me than anything - that they will all be safe, for their lifetimes !

Dear Mary Alice and Chris,
My heart goes out to you both and also to your animals .. but it is some consolation that you have found good homes for them and that the others will still be in your care .

There is nothing that can be done now sadly - you cannot fight laws and decisions  made by those who are unknown to us, those who don't know about these precious animals, have never been to visit and see what we do, or see what this sanctuary meant to the community and it's regular and new visitors. Updates are being made if you read on down towards the bottom, the latest update being yesterday.

Sad news to share for sure. Just don't understand why responsible government would want to undue a situation that has cost them nothing and serves such a wonderful humanitarian purpose.  Perhaps a locally circulated petition might change their plans? You have both worked so hard at making Jollity Farm a home for the homeless. No matter what happens, at least noone can change all the good you have done up to this point. May the Angels of Compassion intervene and bring some positive alternatives to this short sited, political agenda that has been dealt to you.

There will be a huge feeling of shock and then regret in this community when the reality of what is happening clicks in because at the moment most believe that we are moving to a bigger and better field, one where we had planned a better facility with more space, which would have allowed us to help even more animals. We even fought to stay where we were knowing this law which requires OPEN SPACE certainly should not apply to communities in the countryside - walk ten minutes in either direction from our field and there is nothing but open space ! Sadly like everything else, they will all understand when it is too late to change things. We continue on - just differently and we can be thankful for what we were able to do in the 13 years we had our little field, a HEAVEN ON EARTH for the animals, and us ! The little Fairy Garden as it is known as by the children remains so a piece of Jollity Farm will live on within that space. A place where we and our friends can enjoy - a place where people can come and write, do photography and paint or even have a picnic. And because of a caring friend, we are able to rebuild a facility to put our feathered kids in a lovely little meadow and William and George will be entertaining the visitors at the campsite just up the road - it is the kind of attention they will absolutely love and Mother Moonflower will be there every step of the way with them too ! We are building for them there a winter and summer enclosure which will be fit for Royalty ( goats ) !

I remember my heart break when I had to close Road Home. Like everyone I am praying for a miracle but I know that you have to act and cant wait around for dreams right now. Wow, I dont know what to say. I just now found this out. I guess the work on the magazine has kept me oblivious to what was going on.

Sam goes to his new home with our cousin and friend Kay who lives here on the Roseland - she has other goats and fell in love with him immediately - :) He was the first goat to come to us on Jollity Farm way back in 1997  ..... doesn't it hurt to see him go,  but we are happy for him and that he is staying in the family !

Today we signed over our field - we have until September 9th. We are thankful to have been able to at the very least maintain the little Fairy Garden which Brian has worked so hard on for so many years to bring it to the beauty it is today. And I spoke earlier about the donation of a little meadow which we can use. We are so thankful for and to this very special and caring friend who has provided this area for our birds. It is a secure area for them and will provide a place for me to carry on with my large battery hen rescues that I have done the past couple of years. Today the clearing has started so we can rebuild their enclosures - and our dream will somewhat continue !  We will carry on and my promise to all the animals will have been kept., that no matter where, they will be forever safe and free to live out their lives with friends and family and here with us ! Please see  http://pets.webshots.com/slideshow/576572510FjoXHk for photos of the meadow and the work which has started there !

Today, Feb 2nd., 2010  Molly http://pets.webshots.com/photo/2976574480101724428IQeoHD?vhost=pets and Oliver http://pets.webshots.com/photo/2221938840101724428FzkstS?vhost=pets our precious sheep went to their new home at the Probus Animal Rescue facility. I will be visiting them, but will wait until they have settled in to their new enviornment. Oliver also like Sam has been with us since the start, he came to us as a three month old orphaned lamb back in 1998. Molly came to us after the death of our Judy one year ago when she too was just a baby orphan. We will miss them so very much. But give thanks for the time they were here and the good life we were able to give to them !

Feb. 4th., 2010 Our dear Shelly http://pets.webshots.com/photo/2408585930101724428dbxnIV and Primrose http://pets.webshots.com/photo/2994634590101724428ytKyCs went to their new homes at a Sanctuary located near Redruth here in Cornwall. They have been with us since 1998 and even though we know that their new home will be absolutely wonderful, it doesn't take away the pain of seeing them go. This has been one heavy hearted week that is for sure and it isn't over yet ! It is as if someone has physically reached into my heart and wrenched it out ! :(

A single poppy standing proud, amongst a summer garden
A blood red coat,a battle dress, a soldier gives a pardon
To those who take the sanctuary,a haven for the poor,
Whose gift of life a certainty for those with opened door.

This poppy stands in silence the wind, still, around her head,
No surging forth today it seems as all the words are said.
Yet the poppy as a symbol, makes us aware of life
And the selfless ones who suffer that madness and the strife.

That poppy is still standing and will through time to come,
Her eye of saddened ebony, will watch what we become.
With hope she sends her army, of love to warm the heart,
To those who have no concern for friends we have to part.

          After seeing your wonderful photos........XXXX

Such a loss for the community.... but not lost forever... you are giving your 'friends' your love still, by giving them a safe home.I feel your tears .... my thoughts with you. I do not think the council have been kind to you, but you are you and you do what you do and will always be there for the unwanted and unloved.Love you XXXXXXXX

Dear Marie Alice.  It is heartbreaking to read the bad news,  it is so sad for you and all the animals. I am sorry I could not get on here before, I have been fighting for my life at the hospital where I have spent few weeks, bad septicemia.  My heart and my thoughts go to you and to Chris, to all the animals that have shown so much love and been an example of true compassion.
God bless
Anouk
